Ok im stuck on using a heater or not. I like it but i hate the heater lines. ANyone out there got a nice way of running them? I would like to see pics of how everyone ran there lines. Im only using a heater not ac. I might just ditch it totally but would rather not. Help

 

I see that you are from PA. If you do not plan on driving in the winter time then ditch the heater. You could a also buy an electric defroster that plugs into you car.

 

yep thats what i was planning on doing, I agree with 86z/92rs. You get to rip the heater core out, take out the big blower motor=smoother fire wall, all them old heating/ a/c controls can take them out. Just much more simplier. I'm getting a beater car for the winter so everything works out good.

 

Here's a heater-related question: I dunno if all thirdgens have this setup, but it was stock on my '83 V6: part of the length of heater hose between the heater core and the intake/waterpump is metal tubing. There is a molded rubber hose between the heater core and the metal tubes down by the subframe. Then from the other side of the metal tubes, you just have normal heater hose to the waterpump and intake...

Where can you get the molded hoses that go from the heater core outlets (at the firewall) down to the metal-tube part of the heater hose run? I don't want to try and bend regular heater hose and have it kink where it 90's. The parts store guy had no listing for these.

 

what do you mean a plug in heater , ive never seen one .

 

I got the metal pipes for a non ac v6 and some other factory hoses (not for a camaro) to run them like this. I had to cut about 6" off the ends of the tubes by the headers because the metal pipe outlet angles the wrong way (towards the strut tower). Needs to be cleaned up a little, but it made room for my STB. This was done with the ac delete box, don't think it will fit with the larger ac one.

 

The pipes run up behind valve cover on firewall, with 2 question mark looking hoses on the ends.

If you are referring to my previous post, it's basically a small heater w/fan that plugs into your cigarette outlet accessory. I got one many moons ago from Wal-Mart when my heater core went bad.

Thanks LoTec. I figured I'd have to try the dealer. I went and snapped a pic of my setup. The metal section screws to the inside of the frame rail. It's the S-shaped molded hoses on the end that I need:

 

My biggest complaint with the heater hoses are the ones that go to the Heater Control Valve. I have wondered if cutting some of the hose to shorten it would be possible.

Not sure why GM would have hoses laying on top of a motor anyways.

 

Part #'s 10135306 and 10135312 for the S shaped hoses.

I used two cadillac catera heater hoses to come off the intake and water pump. They needed to be trimmed but had the right bends in them.

The pipe is discontinued but available through the dealer through VPI (vintage parts inc.).

The rest is joined with plastic hose connectors and regular heater hose. I used 5/8" and 3/4", no leaks but it was a little loose on the pipes. I will probably redo it with 5/8" and 1/2"

 

I had one of thos before but it hit my header and i couldnt use it. I dont know any other ways to do it. Im just not using the heater i only drive when warm anyways.

I relocated my heater control valve to make it look a nicer. I've since decided to delete the HCV altogether, but I haven't got to it yet.
