Everyone with cowl hoods

Coming this x-mas, I'll be getting my car painted black. I'm sending my factory wheels off to get them chromed and I'm buying a cowl hood. However, I've ran into a problem. I was looking through YearOne magazine only to notice that the cowl hood they sale is really ugly. I noticed it was ASCD. Anyone who has a cowl hood please post pics, and who the company that made it is?

Looks pretty good. I'm probably going to go with a 2 or 3 would be great. I know cervini makes a 3" but it's missing the line that makes the cowl hood look right on a thirdgen. American Sports Car Design looks like they cut it short. There's like an inch missing near the window. Harwood, I haven't seen one on a car yet, I'd like to see their 2 1/2" or if anyone else has some 2 or 3" inch ones. I was thinking of getting a 4", but on a stock engine (right now) it just seems overboard.

You can look at my hood under "finaly, pics of my 92z on the web with my latest mods" topic on this board. I have a 4 3/4" cowl hood, fits fine cost $270.
Check this out
www.unlimitedproducts.com

They have really good deals, and nice hoods.

do you want to go with steel or glass? I have a steel one from goodmark that looks good. I am working on posting pics of it.

Fiberglass, The harwood looks pretty good? I was worried about the fitting since everyone says it's a horrible fit. It doesn't look bad, am I missing something? It's exactly the size I would want. Not to big, but not a waste of 400+ like ASCD.

Anymore pictures? Please post them even if they aren't your car. I'm trying to get some ideas here.

Follow the link in my sig to my website (Not the IROC Homepage- The other one). I've got a bunch of pics. From a distance it looks good, but I had to slice and dice my hinges and the hood latch for the thing to even close. It's still off by as much as 1/2" in places, and the fiberglass is wavey. My friend has an ASCD hood on his pickup and it's substantially higher quality. I'm looking into becoming a Goodmark distributer, so if you decide that you'd rather have a good fitting steel hood let me know.

oh yeah, it was 350 for the bolt on. You also need to cut holes into the hood for the air cleaner on a TPI.

I've never had a problem with having to cut holes with my 350 TPI, but its on a bird, not a camaro, so I think the air filter location is different. Glasstech does ship (thats where I got my hood from) but they may only ship to buisnesses, so if you know someone who owns a shop your set. If its at all a possibility, go pick it up, it saves you a butt load. UPS wanted over $90 to ship to my friends shop, and were only about 90 miles from the company. They've also been having problems lately building the cowls tto the right damn HEIGHT!!! I ordered a 3 and got a 5", well, luckily enough, I really love the 5", makes people think twice at that stoplight before testing what you've got under that beast.

If I ordered a Harwood, and it ended up being crooked and horrible as you say yours is, are you allowed to send it back?

Then again, that's still not good. I'm getting it painted, the hood, the rims, new grille, and new emblems all at once. If the hood comes messed up, that's going to cause problems.

Anyone know what harwoods policy is?

The problem is, you don't know whether it fits or not until you cut it up. You have to trim it to get it to fit. I called them and talked to them about returning it, but I had to send them pictures and every other thing. I wrote it up, took the pictures and never got around to sending it. Just a paint in the *** . Plus, if I had to pay to ship the bastard back to Texas, it would be cheaper for me to just go buy another hood and use this one as a wall decoration in my garage.

Like I said, unlimited products cowl hood comes ready to bolt right up and for only $270. I did not have to sand anything at all, just bolt her up and drive. Came quick and shipping was only $70. Best deal out their by farrrrrrrrrr. The hood was in great shape.

They also come in 2" 2 1/4 " 3" 4" 4 3/4" 6" and 7" bolt on, lift off or both (like my hood).

I dont understand all the trouble you guys have with hoods. They should just get painted and bolt right up, unless you order a lift off hood. I think pins are kinda tacky on anything newer than 80" unless your running 10s.

hey cursed,

If you think pins look tacky, what about a curve hood. Because the hood is only held down in the middle, all that air going under the headlights will curl the hood. THAT looks tacky!

IONS91Z28, My hood is a 4 3/4" fiberglass hood. It uses the rear hinges and pins in the front, not the stock latch.

So, my hood is not a "lift off" hood, it just does not use the stock latching system.

You can get any kind off hood from them, total bolt on, total lift off, or both like mine!

I'm thinking about it. I'm favoring harwood cause I've heard of them a little more. A 3" is what I was looking for however. It uses stock hinges without pins and is made of fiberglass? If so not bad. I was looking on their page, but it wasn't very detailed or anything. Not sure what I'm going to go with right now, really wish I could see some pictures. I've got until mid december to decide. It's going to go get painted then.

I just bolted on my 2-1/2" Unlimited Products hood. The fit was very good right out of the box. It uses the stock hinges. I got the one without the latch so I installed hood pins on the front.
As far as the finish is concerned it was not as good as I would have liked. It will take some filler and sanding in some areas to get it smooth. Shipping charges from California to Georgia was $84. The hood was about $220. It took 3 - 4 weeks to receive it.

NO! Unlimited hoods are fiberglass

I have seen a lot of people talk down on Harwood, saying they don't fit right?

yup.

I have a Harwood hood on my '88, and it fits just fine. I did have to trim the edge lip down to a quarter inch, and notch for the rubber isolaters. The hinges bolted up fine and so did the hood latch. I recomend it.

I don't like those hoods. Just me, I've seen plenty that do. I work at discount auto parts, and cashier that worked at a store near me had a black IROC with a ZZ4 in it and that hood. I prefer a cowl hood. What is the URL to motion glass?

and here is your hood.

Has cowl induction but not a hood that is usually considered a cowl hood.

I thought a cowl hood was anything that has an opening in the back of the hood that pushes air down onto the engine? If that is true then those pics are cowl hoods and so is CobraKillers.
Why is this an issue? Seems like no one can appreciate anyones stuff anymore. Guy has a cool hood, and its a cowl induction hood, its not 4" up, he doesn't need it that high, he doesn't have a blower or anything under there. Don't know why people have to say, "thats not a cowl hood" or stuipd crap like that. Why can't u just say, nice hood, or looks good. Like mama used to say, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

Good lord, it doesn't matter. First off, I didn't say it wasn't a cowl hood... well I might have, but in my second post I showed the difference of what people USUALLY consider a cowl hood. Yes, you can call the daytona hood that, but you'll just be confusing people. But if it makes you feel better to call it a daytona cowl hood or something, your more than welcomed.

does anyone know if they make a cowl hood that opens and closes in the back with the gas pedal. My dad's 69 camaro ss does that and i think it would be cool if anyone had one that did. It would probably be expensive considering the parts to fix my dad's were like 200 bucks, but it really cut down on that "sucking air" noise.

I recently got a Jongbloed cowl induction hood. I just bolted it on, adjusted the alignment, and it was a perfect fit.

[EDIT] I bought this hood from someone who buys old dealer stock. I'm still looking for info, but right now I don't know where or if any more of these hoods can be found.

Hey, I can't seem to get the motion glass number to work? Could you check to see if those are the right numbers for me?

I used to have a 82 transam hood that had a soloinoid hooked up to the rear of the tear-drop cowl hood. that opened and closed it. it was a factory stock function. my $0.02

I love Andy's hood to. I've always thought that a cowl hood that followed the original lines of the car would look awesome. I even thought about trying to fab mine into one and sell the idea to a glass company... but like the rest of my ideas - TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE!

If anyone gets some info let me know!!!

That hood is a Jongbloed, I got it from a guy that buys old GM dealer stock. He had 2 of these hoods, number 2 was just bought last week. I've searched for any information I can find on Jongbloed, but so far I've found squat. Most search engines just return some Norwegian personal sites... The hood has a warranty information decal under the hood, I'll take a look at that tomorrow and see if there's any useful information on it.
