window louver question

hi, i know that info on window louvers come up quite often, and everyone is probably sick of them. I tried to do a search on this specific topic with no luck, so please dont get mad lol. I have been looking for louvers for about 2 months now, and most have been to much money, and i would rather spend it a different way. Either that or the were in Timbactu and shipping was a billion dollars . I was on ebay and came across louvers that were in the SAME town as me!!! i called the guy up, and he didnt know much about them, but that he said they werent original chevy ones, and had plastic side pieces and alum slats. i asked him if he knew who made them, and he said it didnt say. Now when i was looking for louvers, all i wanted were original ones, and as i looked, most of the crappy aftermarket ones had name brands like crager or what not engraved or some sort of emblem on them. These have no name anywhere just numbers. I am going to look at them tomorrow for further inspection just incase the guy doesnt know what he has? So my question is, what are the stock louvers made of. i have heard they were all aluminum, and i've also heard they made some with the middle was alum. and sides were plastic. Also what is the best way to tell if they are a stock G.M part, the name G.M and a bunch of numbers or what will they say? Like i said i havent seen them yet, all i know is that there is no *visible* name on them (i dont know if the guy was b.s'ing, or he was telling the truth), and that the sides are platic with alum middle slots. thanks for your time, albert III

I have tried to attach pics of them, if no luck i will post the link to them.

more pics

here is a shot of some light damage, the reason i posted this is to show a number in the top right hand corner, could this be G.M? like i said there were no emblems or names scripted in them that the guy could see.

well I'm not the "louver king" but i have a couple sets. And those are the dealer installed aka factory louvers for 87-90 i believe. They look identical to both my sets.

They look factory to me. My '87 has the factory ones and they are aluminum and platic sides. I also have the numbers stamped on them like your pic.

Try autozone or one of the other auto stores. I swear I have seen them in the packages where they keep all the bolts and fasteners.

I wouldn't say that I was the louver king, but this set does have similarities to the factory set. The picture that shows the numbers resemble the factory aluminum slats, but the window rest is not familiar to me. Also, whoever put this set together, didn't do it correctly. The center aluminum slats should be pushed up tightly to the side ABS panels. Also, the factory sets that I have put together didn't have the longer triangle shape piece on the side pieces (the piece where the window rest is attached). The mounting hardware at the top of the window looks factory also. This could have been a factory set that some mounting hardware was lost so the window rest was glued on.

Let us know what they look like.

Re: window louver question

The top is connected by clips that slide over the outer window frame. The top clip has two screw studs on each side that the louver hinge piece is held on by. The sides are then connected by more clips that slide over the window edge and and have a spring clip that the louvers lock into. a 1/4 turn screw on the louvers lock them to the side clips.
