I detail cars for Mike Swaneys GMC. Here is the process I've used for the past three years.
1. spray down dash and door panels with dash cleaner.
2. use air compressor to blow dust out of air vents and out of cracks, then wipe down entire dash
3. vacuum vehicle throughout
4. steam clean or scrub wish carpet cleaner and brush, then vacuum again to pick up any moisture or dirt particles.
5. spray dash with aerosol dressing or wipe armor on with towel.
6. clean inside windows
7. close up vehicle, hose th entire vehicle down
8. spray rims/tires/wheel wells with cleaner (I like citrus type the best because you don't have to worry it streaking or staining your rims) then scrub tires down and hose off.
9. hand wash the entire vehicle including rims with quality soap and rinse
10.spray vehicle with spray wax to bead the water off.
11. squeege the vehicle and dry with clean chamos
12. hand wax with cleaner wax then hand wax with a glaze
13. while the wax is drying rubber dress all the tires (this way any over spray doesn't get on the paint, then wipe wax of with micro fiber towels to prevent any scratching.
14. clean windows(rain ex if you drive your car in the rain)
15. go cruisin' the town and stomp a mudhole in every import in site

Werd, interior needs to be cleaned 1st if your washing the int/ext.The reason is cuz if you do the ext 1st and then the int all the dust and stuff that flys around when your vaccuming will just stick to the ext and make your car look dirty again

at the detail shop i qorked at heres what we did

-Pop the hood and spray the engine down with degreaser...let it soak and scrub it, then cover everything vulnerable to water, power wash off underside of hood/engine compartment
-Go around car and spray on kerosene and degreaser on lower half of car and rims then use bug pad to get off all brake dust particles and any other contaminents in the lower half of the paint, then scrub rims til clean, then power wash it all off.
-Go inside and starting at the rear of the car use an air compressor to blow every little piece of crap/dust to the front, then vacuum it all
-Clean dash and all vinyl with scrub brush, toothbrush, air compressor, towels
-soak and scrub carpet and seats
-use steam cleaner to extract all cleaner from the carpet and seats
-dress vinyl
-using rotary buffer and compound, buff out the exterior
-powerwash off excess compound from the glass, mirrors, trim etc
-dry, then using rotary buffer apply wax
-clean windows
-dress tires

I do the Ext/Int. way I see it while washing your shoes get wet and everything sticks to wet shoes. Then when you get in the car you would have to redo it, thats my reason why. To each his own I guess.

Right now my car looks like the Challenger from Vanishing Point, or the Blues Mobile. Dirty as hell.

Put soap in the bucket fill it with water. I do one panel at a time spray the first panel with water than take a sponge and wash it then rinse it. Then i use meguiars hot rims and spray all my wheels adn then go around and rinse them off and then take a towel to dry them off. Then when im done i take the california water blade and get rid of any standing water. Then i dry it with a terry cloth towel. Then any water spots i spray with quik detailer. Then i spray on the tire spray. Then i use meguiars protectant wipes on the whole interior and vacuum. Owned my car for 3 years and have never waxed it once and the paint is a 9 year old 200 maico job. And if anyone has seen my car it is always a mirror finish. Also have never used and wax on my wheels and they look the same as the day i bought them which was over a year ago. Hmmm???

ine bit of advise i have for those of you using dish soap. if your dish soap has a grease fighting agent id advice against using it on your car. wax is a grease applied to the paint to protect it fronm the sun. dish soap removes grease including the was protecting your car. this isnt good for the paint and id advise using a high quality car soap. just my two cents

Uh oh!here we go,the can of worms has been openedish soap vs. car wash soap.

I personally also prefer high quality car soap but I use dish soap in an emergency.

I use dish soap to strip the wax so I can apply a fresh coat. Between wax jobs, I use car wash soap that won't strip wax.

i clean the interior first, then use armor all car wash soap on the exterior. dish washing soap has hand moisturizing stuff in it, don't want that on the car, it can leave a haze. Then after doing the exterior i gotta go back and clean up the water runs on the inside of the windows from those wonderful ttops.
