Corvette Magnetic Red

Can any of you guys tell me if a Camaros ever been painted in this color? Technically its "Red Tiny Coat Met 3ct" but usually referred to as Magnetic red. I was thinking that red with like a satin black ground effects and hood louvers. Im trying to do a search but its havin some problems.

the factory dark metallic corvette red is very similar to the dark metallic red that was offered on our cars. that paint that your refering too looks like the anniversary color which is a complex 3 stage. hard to tell in pictures and the car has the wrong rims but it looks much closer then their factory red. although it is possible to purchase today it will cost you a bit and you'll need to know someone as it's reserved just for the 50th anniversary corvette.

the color is very sharp in the day light but under clowdy skies it's quite dull. if you like metallic reds like that it's very easy to come up with something similar and not have to have such a hard time to find it. not to mention it won't look as bad in the wrong light. not sure if it's the gold pearl or the base of that paint but sunlight is the only light it looks good in.

Thats a little too dark/purplish for my taste. Alright well the guy said for the body work and normal paint job for $2000 so how much am I looking at if I were to get the 3 coat magnetic red (base corvette) paint? What colors look similiar to it?

3 coat or 3 stage... 3 stage can be anything and prices vary by painter but it's the most expensive to paint next to 4 stage. if you worried about saving money go drive around to local dealerships and look at factory paint codes.

So in this book it says Red Tint Coat Met 3 ct so are you saying Im not able to get this paint? Im just confused because PPG say they sell this paint but maybe this book I have is only to match colors for touchups. Its a 3 coat metallic paint according to the name so it would probably be relatively expensive. Sorry about all the confusion.

that is definately confusing to read. they don't sell paints in coats. you buy stages and if it's a 3 stage then it's metallic more or less which means it's more expensive then the rest because it's harder to paint.

it could mean that... every company has different ways but it's usually measured universal. reguardless metallic paints require more labor and more product so they are more expensive in most instances.

3 stage means 3 "layers" used in the finish paint... my paint is 3 stage candy

Stage 1 - Metallic Gold Base (PPG Pure Gold)
Stage 2 - Translucent red midcoat (PPG Sunset Red)
Stage 3 - Clear coat (PPG Clear)

Most metallics are a 2 stage.. or a "Base/Clear" from what I have seen.

You mean these factory colors actually have a midcoat? So technically they are candy from the factory? Thats cool... I was wondering how they achieved so much depth.

gm black is the oddest of them all, it's actually more green then anything. alot of wild colors and why it costs so much to repaint some of them.

cady's use the tri-stage the most though.

Alright well I have until Friday or sooner to figure out what color I want so any help is needed greatly, theres just so many choices. Its an 1986 z by the way with the older style GFX. My problem is my dad likes the look of offset GFX and he thinks they should be darker than the main color so that color is prob black for the effects. Also, theres going to be some imperfections in the body so which of these should I do?

Darker maroon red such as the magnetic red with black GFX, Blue metallic with any color GFX which someone said is a factory color, or all black. The probs are Im a young driver, the hood has the louvers, there are flaws in the body that will be filled, the handles are shaved, etc. Any opinions?

the words new paint and imperfections in the body should not be even remotely close to each other.

unless your going to do some sort of 2 tone scheme mixed on the body somewhere painting your gfx black and the rest of the car red won't appeal to many. however it's your car, stand up for what you want and pick your own color. thousands of pictures of different paints that are very affordable and easy to spray are all at your fingertips.

be different and come up with your own color.

Well when I say inperfections I mean there will be things that no one besides the guy who did the body work will notice. Im talking about places that wont be perfect because of tiny areas of body filler such as a small area where the doors buckled and we couldnt pop back out. I've talked to two people who have had black ground effects and they both said it looked good but I dont know.

I'm probably going to have to stick to black ground effects because I think it will look pretty good with a slightly darker red and my dad wants black or dark silver GFX and hes the one dishing out the money for most of the paint job, anything special done out of the average job I'm going to have to pay for probably.

Gr98RS, I hope you don't mind, I saw your picture and the color balance is just wrong on it, so I went ahead and fixed it:

I'm guessing you used a cheap digital camera to take the picture with (Vivitar maybe?). A lot of them will give pictures with bad color.
