Another Firebird Headlight Mod
As posted on other boards I frequent:
I finally got around to mounting up the lowbeam projectors today. Actually last night and today. Took me longer than I though. The beam pattern is ****ing sweet. I'm thinking about getting one of those HID retrofit kits from eBay but the bulbs that I'm using now (h9's) are supposed to put out almost 2600 lumens (compared to HID's 3200 and regular halogens {I think} 1400)
AAAAAnyways. Look and enjoy, comment and complain.
I still have to mount a front side turn signal. Which I thnk I'm going to do an single LED strip across the bottom of the opening. I also have been thinking about putting a piece of clear plex/lex over the front of everything and rigging up a set of those "halo" or "angel" eyes from BMW/ricers.
Thoughts?

Damn, my front bumper is scratched to hell...

So much easier when everything is off.

Bracket shots.

High beams somewhat adjusted... still need to do some minor aiming.

Final product. Low beams. Look at that cutoff line. Awesome.
And yes, my house is pink.

thats a good ideal. Looks like it turned out good. But the only thing i don't like is in the day time looks like your car has teeth lol. Would be cool if some how u could cover them up when not useing. (Not a big fan of it) but what about some red wire mesh?

Interesting to say the least. I love the 91-92 nose. Makes me wish I still had my 91 bird.
Where do you plan on putting the turn signals? Maybe you could mount a small flat LED under the nose or beside the light somewhere for the signals.
I agree with the others. If you had some sort of smoked plexi glass or blackout to cover that area it would make them not "stand out" so much. The only trouble would be to worry about the heat from the lights being so close to whatever could go in front of them.

i dont like em cuz IMO it ruins the lines of the front end. nice craftmanship tho.
also may want to check your local laws because headlights have to be a certain distance off the ground. plus to me it looks like they dont really light things up that much.

It's different, I like it! Yeah, the lights do stick out a little too much, but it look very well done! Where'd you get those lights? Do they make rectangle versions?
Wouldn't it be unsafe to cut into the metal bumper though?

I didn't actually cut into the bumper at all. The 91-92 has slits in the bumper for turn signals/foglights. I got the lights from Rally Lights.
As far as the local laws; I know it's illegal. These lights are around 12-15" off the asphalt. The law says they need to be at 24", however my stock headlights aren't that high since it's been lowered so it's a moot point anyways.
The airhorns I have no ideas, they were on a 75 chev truck I had last year and just ripped 'em off that.
For the turn signals, that exactly what I was thinking. A single LED strip just below the lights themselves.
After awhile of driving they don't get too hot so I don't think I'd have to worry about melting covers at all. I just don't want to put smoked covers on because it'll impede light output.
The driveway picture slopes up ALOT before the garage door. If everything was level it'd put the beam alittle above half the door.

Cool, that is about the only fixed headlight mod for a 91/92 that I have seen done! Give you props for that. Looks kinda funny, but I bet just driving normally it doesn't stand out as much.

Amorget, I'd still like to your headlight conversion in person sometime. Where abouts you located?
confucious, you mean just take a picture of the lights shooting down the road?

Sometimes I liked the popups but most times not.
Eventually I'd like to smooth the headlight doors into the hood and use those corners to mount hinges for a reverse opening hood.

I think it looks good, mainly because It's good to see something different (I have a red 91 bird as well) It will look better when you do your hood mod, definitely, keep it up

Dude, as a fellow '91 vert owner I think it rocks. Very unique and fits the lines of the car to me. I am willing to bet that those who do not like it are not fans of the banshee nose unlike ourselves.

Kind of has a 1stgen TA kind of appeal. Thats a great idea, I think ill pirate your idea for my own use. Doesnt hurt to have more lighting at night, especially roads that have no lights what so ever and can't see crap.
