Paint the hood the same color or black?
So I purchased a Powerbuldge hood, and put it on my car. It was spotty black, and very ugly looking paint, but very straight, and even tho it had ****ty paint looked 100x better. Anyways, I've since painted the hood to match the car. Now my car is teal in color, and when I went to buy the paint, it was $75 for a pint, and was told that I was going to NEED the strainers. Im like yeah, ok, gimme some strainers, paint, thinner etc etc. So my dads mixing up the paint, and as hes mixing up the paint, just about all of the pearl stays in the strainer, I didn't dump it strait into the gun because it would have spit. Anyways, it ended up not looking as good as the original paint. Now my question is do you think that my car would look good with a black hood and a teal body? I plan on painting the car black in the future, but not now.
Also, I have a pretty big gap between my hood and the bumper. The hood is shut all the way, and is tight, its just that there is a big gap. Now I've seen alot of the firebirds with the powerbuldge have the gap, and then I've seen alot without the gap. Is it that I need to adjust my nose?
Here is the original hood on the car:

Here is the new hood, obviously before paint, but shows the gap, and how the paint was spotty before.

And one more view.
The hood is actually flush with the headlights. The headlights and the nose aren't flush, tho. The view and the fact that my gaps arent 100% in this picture dont show that.

everytime I ever see a car drive down the road with a different color hood (usually carbon fiber on an import), it makes me want to laugh....it looks unclean/unfinished/and not good at all. I dont think you'd be happy with it over time

I agree with camaroguy18. As you hear a honda zing by you all you see is a red car, black hood. Ugly IMO. Your car looks nice and clean, dont ruin it with a black hood....unless your painting the car black....
I just dont get those hondas with those hoods....its like you spend $900 on a carbon fiber hood to reduce weight and save gas. With all your savings you still cant even afford to paint the rest of your body kit.....
Paint it man. It will look SO much better.

wow sorry i read that first post totally wrong, i thought you went and painted it black....didnt know you painted it teal.
About the gap....sheesh, hood gap is always the worst thing to try too fix....did you play around with the rubber stopper thingys?
edit: guess that wouldnt help if the head lights are flush....

I say do what you like best. I personally like the look of a black hood or trunk on a lighter colored car. Dont really matter to me if its carbon fiber or just painted black. I like the way it breaks up the car, makes it look more aggressive to me (personal taste right?). My 89 IROC-Z currently has a black hood with a lighter colored body. I didnt have enough to re-paint the entire car and I got the hood for free (its an 82 SMC hood). I wanted to use it for my track days so I wanted to run it ASAP. The surface was jacked up and it needed to be painted. It didnt make sense to paint it green if I plan to re-paint the car in 6 months. We cut out the vents and painted it the color I'm going for in 6 months, '03 Toyota Tacoma Black with Moss Green Pearl. I think it came out alright. I plan to paint the rest of the car soon, so it wont be looking like this for long. But I like the way it looks so much, this is probably what I'll be doing with my orange 91 Z28 when I get the new hood. Here's a pic of the IROC-Z w/ black hood. I'll get more pics when I finish up the suspension.
P.S. those carbon hood for the imports are alot cheaper than $900. I have seen good quality brand new carbon hoods with vents for around $300. The more hoods they make the cheaper it gets.

If you want the carbon-fiber hardcore-racer look, get a carbon fiber hood. Otherwise, it just looks cheap, unfinished, and makes you look too cheap to finish it and too cheap to buy a carbon fiber hood.
Ok so lemme get this straight. Either you run a carbon fiber hood and you are a hardcore racer, or anything else painted black makes you look cheap. Thats a pretty lame set of stereotypes.

seems to be a misunderstanding here. I have already painted the hood the same color as the car. I was just asking because Im going to be breaking out the black paint soon, and I could paint it black (Long story short, the pearl stayed in the cup and the color is noticeably different)

I kind of like black hoods on cars, but i think with a firebird the headlights need paint to look right.
As far as black hoods looking stupid, what about famous muscle cars that laft the factor with flat black hoods or satin black hoods. Such as the 69 Mach 1(even though its ford, i am using it as an example) and so did Roadrunners if I am not mistaken. Right off hand I can't think of a GM car that came factory like that.
Also muscle cars had black hoods long before hondas had carbon fiber.
I think it only look cheap when it is left primer, or bare fiberglass. Im not a big fan of bare carbon fiber eithier. However I do like black hoods.

i recently put a harwood bolt on 3 inch hood on my car and i left it black. a friend of mine who has a grand national says its a "88 gta type-r"........wft. he just wrecked his car, so i just reply with , "1984 buick demolition derby car".
dont worry about what others say.
"i see a teal hood and i want to paint it black"
and about the gap, i have it too. but i have tried to fix it , i even drilled out the hings so i could adjust it even farther out. its not perfect, but it is good enough for me.

hmm... even without the pop-ups painted the body, it still looks good.
cooltc2004, it is your car, no one elses. Do what makes you happy. Thats all that really matters.
Me personally I see nothing wrong with a black hood.
Your car should make you happy.

I think it looks ok black to me, but i like it all one color better... guess it just depends on the particular application.

Keep the hood black. That way your car will look just like every other trailer park bondo queen thirdgen.
That opinion aside, you can adjust your gap to look better. If you adjust the hood latch down you should be able to take in that gap. The rubber adjusters on the radiator support can be turned up if necessary to keep the gap between the hood and headlights correct.
You can also losen the bolts at the front of the nose right in front of the hood latch and pull up on the urethane nose. There should be enough adjustment between that and the hood latch to get that gap to go away completely.

These questions, of what do you think looks better are almost pointless. The question about fitment however will gain you some results.
Whenever anyone on the boards posts a 'what do you think' type post, you always get the same people with the same replies.
If your car doesn't look 100% stock, lowered, and with some kind of aftermarket wheel.....well then these people come out of the woodwork and 'state their opinion'. Of coarse most of these 'opinions come out to be derogatory, and mean in most cases.
My personal opinion on the hood. Black hoods look good on some cars, like the green one above, especially when its a shiney blank and not just black primer.
My hood is still fiberglass white, I will be painting it as soon as I have the funds to do so. I'm one of the people who has a hood that looks 'looks unclean/unfinished/and not good at all'. Unforunatly, I've got all my money tied up in an engine swap, so I don't have the money to look cool.
But to me, going fast is better than looking good doing it

On a camaro with the headlight sockets I think it would look good, but with the more fluid lines of the bird, I don't think it would look right.

I think black hoods look pretty cool on school buses- really breaks up that yellow. 91-92 Firebirds, on the other hand, look better monochrome in my opinion.
