New Paint....Whats a good color

I have a turbo transam I'm going to repaint soon. I was thinking about painting it the ford limited peal white or lexus pearl white. Have you guys seen any cool colors out there that would look good on this car..

My white GTA is getting either Lexus pearl or Toyota pearl, but to be honest, a TTA really aught to get the stock color. That car's too special to put a non-stock color on it. It sorta makes me cringe, like when I see a blue Grand National.

What's special about it is that all 1555 TTAs came that color. Plus, it's not the color that fades, discolors and peels. A new paint job with urethane paints is going to be a lot nicer than the original, and will be exactly the same materials no matter what color you choose. Whether you choose to stay with the stock white or go to a different color, you can be sure that a urethane paint, when applied correctly will shine like lacquer and will hold up far better than any stock paint.

Jim, the white paint used on my turbo is also the same color on countless other third gen firebirds, camaros, buicks, etc.... You would think if GM was going to make a limited production car the least they could of did was change paint in the spray guns.

If I parked my TTA next to a white firebird, de-badged both cars you could not tell them apart.

I'm not saying the car should not be white but it should have paint on it that is not on 30% of all the GM cars made in the last 15 years.

I am still have not picked a color yet and do find your comments useful- I still am tempted to trash the whole color scheme of this car and change it to gray or silver with a gray leather interior

Personally, I'd keep a TTA stock code 11 white. Granted, it's kinda boring, but we're not talking some 3.1L firebird here (no offense to the V6 folks). While I do like the look of most of the 3 stage pearls, they are pricey to have done. Also, they're darn hard to match, IF, anything were to happen later on down the road. Not only that, but, after 7 or 8 years you may see some degredation of the pearl coat, and loose some of the pearl effect. Admittedly, most repaints won't last that long before some sort of damage besets them, dings/dents/hail/collisions etc.

I think you'd be happy with a 3 stage pearl coat, but I'd keep it original.

I gotta agree with jim

furthermore, Id take extra care to preserve or procure the special decals that went along with the TTA (not neccesarily the door decal, but the others)

its all part of owning a TTA

you wouldnt paint a GNX green

i feel that changing the colors around etc on a rare car like that simply takes away from its uniqueness, ive seen several 3.8sfi conversions on thirdgens such that if i saw silver trans am with a 3.8 under the hood i personally and probably alot of other people would simply believe you swapped it in, or, its a tta that was wrecked or molested in some other way along the line

While I agree that a TTA should probably be kept all-original, if it were me, I'd probably go with the pearl white too, personalizing your car is what's fun, not keeping a car a color you don't like..

Remember I still can put a color on the car that I can enjoy, keep it that way for a number of years then strip it and return it back to orginal paint scheme.

I have the orginal door stickers to this car but the thought of driving with them installed makes my flesh crawl... I can see the judge ripping apart my licence now. I thought I can draw some attention with a nice custom paint job without invoking the wrath of local law enforcement in a 100 mile raduis from my home

any other turbo owners out there thinking of a color change?

Also any paint put on the car can't change the VIN# 1g5fw217 the 7 in the vin says TTA and would put to rest any dissussions by any doubting thomas

Hey turbo497, I love the idea of you changing the color scheme of your TTA. I think that the white pearl in a double staged clear coat would look awesome. I also hate all those damn TTA stickers, the only thing that I like is the emblems but not the stickers. I say go for it and leave it like that & don't change it back to stock b/c I hate things original & not modified. Just my 2 cents.

I would never change the color of my car no matter what color it is. But if I had the means I would love a nice silver on my car.

Personal opinions were what you asked for and that is what you got. I personally think that if you do change the color, some "old fogy", later on will have the time of his life complaining about the fact you changed the color. Although, that would be the least of his worrys in his restoration project that is now your car. I deal with guys like you and the "old fogys" every day.

I see that you restore cars for a living.... when does a person become an old foggy LOL. bet they want thier 55 chevy done in orginal laq.paint org battery, org seats.... I wonder if this disease infects all men sooner or later. Since Im 37 I will most likey become infected any day now...then I could complain to myself on how I could change the color of a car or even worse drive the car every day. Damm I should be saving this car in the garage so when I die my wife could sell it before my body gets cold and the process could start all over again with someone else.

Just alittle humor stinger, I respect what your saying about color change. thanks for the post

Wow Turbo, looks like your already there!! So I guess I don't have to tell you all of the freaks that I deal with. You hit it on the mark!! Tell your wife that I'll mow her lawn after you kick it, maybe I'll be the one complaining that you changed the color to "Kameleon" or something!! J/K
