worst time searching 91-92 Z28 wheels
Okay I've been searching and I haven't done well. I'm looking for pictures of the 16" 91-92 wheels with black accents that came on the Z28s. I found a shop that will sandblast and powdercoat for $45 - 50 a wheel and I think that's the direction I want to go.

Well I read that sandblasting won't make my wheels look that good and will cause pitting. I've already polished two wheels but I guess I could repolish them after the sandblasting if need be. I just need some pictures to make sure I get everything powdercoated correctly.

I'd like close up on the wheels even if I don't choose to go that direction.

It must be nice to have those wheels w/ the black accents. My car has them with the white accents and they have to be constantly cleaned. The front wheels are actually stained w/ dirt in some places because i guess they were never really cleaned by the first owner.

Anyone have the wheels painted black where the arrow is (sorry using paint late at night)?

And is sandblasting as bad as some posts say?

I do!
I polished them myself and painted them with flat black engine paint. I've been thinking of getting them powdercoated too.

that looks great, I love those style rims...
sandblasting I don't think is a very good option, it will easily pit and score the soft aluminum rims. I do know that sandblasting can be done with other medias, hence the term "media blasting" One option is to media blast with walnut shells.. perhaps you can research media blasting to find something that will work for blasting aluminum...??
I still think hand sanding and polishing is the route to take.. you can also have them sent out fairly inexpensivly to have them professionally polished...
The images I have caputured on a handy cam are not very good but I was going to post them, however I see that much better images have been posted.
Good luck and let us know what you decide and how it works out...

Well I'm going down to the shop I was recommend to this Wednesday and see what different medias that they have. I'll also get their opinion.
I know hand sanding and polishing works pretty well and I'll probably do some touch up afterwards, but if they can save me some time.
Only things I know for sure is I want the accents powdercoated black and to get rid of these Eagle GT II in the truck size 225/60/16.

Gr89rs - thanks man, I spent an assload of time on them. Probably about time to go back and repolish them tho, it's been about a year and half since I did it

Well the shop said it wasn't worth their time to do my wheels. So I guess that means I'm doing them. I should probably prep them by getting all the clear coat off. Then should I go with some primer and then some high temp gloss black? Does the type of primer matter? Since clear nearly always flakes off should I put any on?

I haven't heard of a paintshop doing anyones wheels before. There is too much time to mask them and too much room for error. They don't want to put out something that looks shotty with their name on it and to do it right it would probably cost you more than a set of new wheels would. With that said its not all that hard to do it yourself. Just mask them and cut the excess off at an angle with a razor. Then clean them up with some acetone when your done.

The pics dont do them justice, they were machined so the stock lines were back in them, windows painted, then clear powdercoated.
Looked better than any set i've seen polished IMO.
The best part was a quick wipe down with some soap and water and they looked just as good as when they got done.

I know this post has been dead, but what type of black should I get? Gloss, semi-gloss, or flat. I hope to have these done with tires but the end of October. Stupid work and school taking all my time.
