let's see those polished wheels!

I'm gonna do something with my wheels soon. I just don't know what. I painted the center caps and lug-nut covers to match the painted parts of the rim. It looks pretty nice, but I've seen a lot of rims with the paint removed(?) and they looked good, too. If you did something cool to your firebird style wheels and have a pic, let's see em!

these wheels looked like $H!t when i got them, the painted center was all faded and chipped
the clear coat on the outer edge was coming off in spots, was dull, and the spots where it came off the aluminum had corroded to that white stuff

i stripped them down totally, spent a few weeks working my way up sanding grits and polishing compounds, and when i got them to a mirror finish i repainted the centers with some rustoleoum hard hat black gloss paint
they came out great the pic doesnt do them justice
need some centercap emblems though

those look clean, time for me to get busy when I go back home, what did you use?

Hey Slow Camaro,

I have seen the 15" Z-28 rims polished, and they look good. Real good. I have a set that I want to polish. I think that they look the best with out the center caps though. Yeah, the lugs show, but so what!

I just polished the face, not the painted parts. I wish I could say I did it myself, but I had it done.

D&B Wheels, INC
4409 Mission Blvd
Montclair, CA 91763
(909) 590-1707

They charge $35 per rim to just do the face, and it was like $45 per rim to have the entire wheel polished.

how do i get to a tech article to see how to do this? Should I do this with my tires off? I need to get them rotated sorta soon, so maybe i should get them removed, polish the wheels, then put the tires back on. I really like that look, maybe i will go to the junkyard and buy one front and one rear rim to practice on. If it turns out good i could just rotate my tires off my car one by one.

you guys should be asking me these questions. I hand polished my 86' style iroc rims that once had gold painted areas. I didn't bother repainting... I polished the entire wheel to look exactly like chrome. Yes, it took time. But the finished product... well... let's just say I've never gotten so many heads to turn with those bright polished 16's and good year yellow letter tires.

TPI383 Where at in ohio do you live? If you are getting TT2's i would possibly be intersted in buying your polished wheels if you want to sell. Or i might do them to mine, did you strip the colored part too, then repaint them black? Did you pretty what did you polish them with?
