bought this for parts..
Hey there, this car found me.. I couldn't refuse for the price. 1988 IROC-Z 305 LB9 T-5 with 75,000 original kms, accident free. (thats like 46,000 miles?) Its damned near mint in and out. It had some mechanical issues that I resolved, I got the car cheap cause the guy wasn't able to fix it and didn't want to throw money at it.
I bought it to strip out the interior and put it into my '88 IROC with t-tops. I'll then flog out the car with low kms and great original paint with a so-so interior. Here is a couple pics of her.. what do you think?

Dude..... DUDE!
Your new car is beautiful, sell it to someone for a killing and buy yourself the parts you need.
You'll have extra $$$ to spare AND someone will get a beautiful car!
That car looks great, I'd hate to see it parted out...

the sad part is I paid less for this new car then I did the first car I bought with T-tops.. and I can probably resell the 'nice' car for much more than I paid.
This new car has A/C which doesn't work and its just too damned hot without T-tops... ! !
EDIT: I'm not going to part out the car... I'm simply planning to swap parts. Both cars will be kept whole.

You didn't put the wrong pics in the wrong posts, did you? That first car in nice! The only thing I see wrong with it is the lack of T-tops. Apart from that, that's a nice car! The second car should be the parts car...

First of all
ALL THE GUYS ON HERE ARE RIGHT!!!!!!!!
How could you even begin to think about ripping appart a great looking car, THAT HAD PAINT. If you wanna go fast mod the crap out of the second one. Hard tops will take the power 100x better than a T-top car. Personally I think hardtops look way more hardcore. Sort of how Z06's look bad *** for only coming in hardtop. Too fast for cool little things...hehe but thats just me. The black car is awsome looking. I think me and everyone here are all praying that you don't rip that nice IROC appart. It would be a damn shame.

Okay, it isn't April 1, so...
...I'm guessing you're serious. I honestly had to reread your first post several times, all the while thinking I had more coffee to consume. The IROC is a much better ride to keep. Part out the other car, and with the cash add a few goodies to the new ride. Or, sell the IROC to someone who won't suggest what you're suggesting and fix up the old one with the profit.

Id rather have a hardtop anyways. If you really need t-tops do what the one guy said and jsut sell them both and go buy the one you want.

What exactly did you have planned for your t-top car? I don't understand why you would cause yourself the trouble of trying to build up the "junker" when you have a perfectly solid car to build off of right in front of you. I'd take whatever that's good from the t-top car and put it on the hardtop and just save yourself the headache. The hardtop has nice mileage on it and looks great and I'd hate to see it turn into a 100k+ mile looking car. Whatever you do, good luck.

wtf? Are you crazy? The car you just bought looks mint. How can you take something like that apart? I dont understand your logic here. What is so special about your t-top car? You seriously need to think about what you are doing.

THIS GUY IS A J.O.!!!!! If you "swap" the parts, like you say you have no appreciation for 3rd Gens and don't even deserve to be registered here. It is EXTREAMLY hard to find a Camaro, let alone an Iroc in near mint condition. You are an idiot, and know nothing about these cars!

As much as I don't think these cars are something super special, even I can see, this as a retarded idea.

Well I'm with everyone else... don't strip the new car! Its too nice.. you know how many would kill for that car even with the bad AC! Just fix the AC or sell the car.... you can buy quite the interior for your project with the profit! Come on please tell everyone you are kidding!

Well guys to be honest, swapping parts and keeping both cars whole was my intention. I was NOT going to part out either car, and I still won't! No I wasn't trolling for attention, thanks for asking
When I bought this car I was just barely able to make the drive home without a tow truck, mechanically it was in poor shape. I knew I would have to repair it somewhat to make it drivable once I got it home so I started troubleshooting. After spending about a grand on parts including a new computer, chip, battery, alternator, serpintine belt, water pump, MAF, relays, etc... it is now running smoothly. Before, when it ran, it was very rough and unresponsive and it was in limp home mode. It would only drive for a short while before coughing and stalling.
Now that I have it running smoothly without a check engine light and I am able to retrive stored troubleshooting codes (which it now has none)... I am in love with the car. I just have to repair the cruise control and the car is 100% Both cars I have are the same year and nearly identical... just one has t-tops. (hence the profile) However this hardtop doesn't squeak, nor rattle, vibrate, or clunk. It is smooth and straight on the highway and has alot more topend.
I've had this car for about a week and I have now decided, partly with the input of some friends (not the flamers here on the board) that I am going to keep the hard top. There is nothing wrong with my t-top. If you can overlook the paint job and slightly torn front leather seats (and a bit dirty on the inside) my t-top car is in just as nice of shape, but it pulls alot harder from the bottom end. Anyone want to buy it?
So I've already pulled my stereo and short throw shifter from the t-top car and installed it into the new hardtop, no turning back now.. I'm going to take out all the 'good' stuff that I installed in my first car and move it over, then sell the t-top'er.
Thanks for all the positive replys, you know who you are

I'm glad to hear you decided to keep the new one... Seem to be in better shape than the T-Top... Plus with the cash for selling the other, you will be able to fix little things like the cruise control and AC so you will be 100% happy.
