mlrsone, nice shades. I was always brought up as the louvers were a "trademark" of the 80's f-body. I love em, cant wait to get a set.

Does anyone remember Inspector Gadget? Those rear window Louvers make a Thirdgen look like the gadget mobile, ya know after it transformed from a minivan or something. Go GO gadget MOBILE!!! hahaha

I'm wondering how much they would be too..
..I can only find the aftermarket hood ones. Not really sure if I want the rear window ones. But my interest is piqued. If anybody knows, please let me know as well

I think that the rear window louvers (f*ck the spelling) are killer looking, only on black cars, then they look awsome, i want to get some or my firebird, but people tell me it looks white trash f*ck them.

they died, may they rest in pieces...
if i bought a car with the louviers on the rear hatch i'd leave them in the person's driveway before leaving. probably in many pieces...

darn this was an old post like 2001 them brought back in 2003...........anyways louvers were the trademark for the fbodies in the 80's. the 80's pretty much sucked even though i seem to like that decade a lot!!! (hence me owning a 3rd gen) but i still never caught on to liking the louvers. ive seen some good looking cars with them but very rarely. if you like them you like them so screw everyone else that tries to tell you your car looks like crap because of louvers. they may think so but should keep negative opinions to themselves. i hope i didnt sound like a jerk because i wasent trying to be one to either group, louvers or haters. get it!?!??!

Louvers are those kind of things you think is cool for a little while and once you have them you quickly get tired of them, at least thats how it was for me. Even I had the rear louvers on my car for about 3 months.

I couldn't tell ya if i would get tierd of them, i have yet to own louvers, i think they are bad *** on black cars...... but not the one piece ones, the three piece with the two side slanted louvers, and then the main back piece, those are the cool ones

Thanks for letting those of us who do appreciate ol' school louvers know where we can find them, CaysE.
I also found out a place that carries them: JC Whitney. The item# is 86zx3362y for $264.95 (sorry, Camaros only as far as I know). Not bad, and cheaper than the GM ones. As far as quality, I have no idea. I'm not recommending them as I haven't tested them out myself. If in doubt, I'd go with the GM ones. JC doesn't even list them online or in the catalogs. I had to make a special request for customer feedback, which only took 24 hrs. And, everyone can blame me for resurrecting this once-ancient post from the dead...
Oh well, I thought it was better than starting a new one on the same topic and figured, heck, last post was in this year, right? Supreme Member

The eighties, those glorious years between the absurd seventies and the cultural wasteland of today, was perhaps the single greatest decade in American history.
Having said that, viva louvers!

I haven't found any louvers made today that actually look good. The ones that are in that link are horrible cheap plastic. Look at the 4th gen Firebird they pictured. Those things are hideous. JC Whitney also sells cheap plastic crap. Those are the ones that rattle and are problematic. I have a GM set on my car and there is no rattle or squeak associated with them.
I have a brand new set for a 91/92 Camaro. The set is missing 2 slats, but everything else is there. Even the rock hard silicone sealant used to put them together. If anybody wants the set, I'll let it go cheap. It probably wouldn't be too hard to find the missing slats from someone that doesn't want their louvers. My spare set is still in the GM box!

Here in Arkansas the sun just beats down in the summer and cooks everything in the car, so a set of louvers really help, but my father-in-law (Uncle Jim Bob) said something about how it matches my mullit? whats a mullit?

Beginning March 23, 1983, I drove a '83 Z28 every day for the rest of the 80's with NO louvers.
I thought they made a very smooth car look blocky. I used dark tint to get the UV protection and maintain the aerodynamic lines of the car.
So some of us didn't like 'em in the 80's either!

I got some offers to buy offical ones from other members because they are awsome (the members and louvers), and my windows should be tinted soon, so i might as well not even have a back window due o the fact that it will b imposible to see out of.
