Appearance of header wrap with silicon spray over time?
My headers didnt come painted and now they have a nasty rusty look to them. So after I remove the rust look I was thinking about ordering some header wrap from jegs and using their high temp silicon spray with it to seal the wrap in a nice black color. I was wonder if anyone has seen what time does to that. If the silicon spray changes colors or looks bad. THANKS!

header wrap over a short period of time will start to look like ****!
if ya want it to look good you need to get a set of coated headers.now if you can settle or have to settle for the headers looking OK?clean the headers very good then put on a 4 or 5 coats of header paint.i used the DEI brand and it looked OK for about two years.after i put ona few coats i put them in an oven set on 400 degrees.DEI says they need to reach at least 400 degrees to cure.well during normal operation the headers will exced that temp.i put them in the oven first cause i figured that they would get all scratched up while i was installing them and this would let the rust peek through sooner.just make sure you get the stuff that is labeled as header paint.it should say that it is good up 1500 degrees.

Over a short time that Header wrap is going to look like a bunch of dirty rags down there. Should of bought Stainless or coated headers. Plain steel will rust big time.

Its very easy to solve this. Take them to any coating shop...have them sand blast it and then pick your color for a ceramic coating. I had mine done like 4 years ago and they still look great.

With the black silicone spray, you wouldnt see the orignal color of the header wrap. You can spill oil all over it and the header wrap itself shouldnt absorb any of the oil because its coated with silicon. I'm just not sure what aged silicon spray looks like.

I cant find any pic of this or any valid reviews, I guess I'll try it and post a review in the products section here. I know ppl say to just get them coated, well thats 300.00 that I dont have, I'm cheaping out for now.
