I'd guess 3 tries to get the shine out of the aluminum just right,, it really is a pain in the to get it to looking like a "mirror".

Hookin88formula, it took me 3 attempts to get it to a "professional", hi-polish. There is no way you can do permanent damage by just sanding (not with my method anyway)

If you start sanding, and find that you didn't achieve your goal. All you would do then, is start at one of the beginning steps again. (40 grit -400grit. Depends on condition) Email me if you have any other questions. It really isn't that hard. Good luck

i sanded mine with i polish wheel then a rotary sanding bit in a drill then by hand and it looks great not as good as the mirror one but i like it i am getting a Mini Ram and i am going to do it to that also. the whole thing. it really makes it look better. i like it and i brightens the engine compartment. and you can do the runners and base plate also if you have time. just a good idea for a weekend or week job. have fun and dont break anything. and while you are at it . port the plenum. it helps in high speeds. just have fun now.

Porting the plenum is rather easy. However, you can run the risk of porting "through" the plenum itself. I've never heard of anyone going to that extreme though.

Porting the plenum involves removing the cast wall behing the opening of the plenum. You use a rotary type tool like a Dremel to do this. If you are concerned with damaging the plenum, just take the wall down. Thats all I did.
