I need a new paint job, but I am not putting 2 grand into it cuz i dont plan on keeping the car for more than like 2 more years... Has anyone done the Maaco stuff.. not like the cheapest one they offer, but do they do a descent job.

Is there overspray on the driver side head lamp?

 

ON the turn signal and fog light areas there was, but I had temporary covers over them anyways. Just haven't had time to change em out.

 

Mine is also a Maaco job(check the links in the sig). Not bad for $500 plus the had to strip the top of the car because of the flaking clear coat. I took all the lights out and covered the side markers myself. Not the best paint job, but for that money it was great. Only now I wish I had gotten base-clear because the intergated clear does not protect the paint as well.

OverClock350 - Not saying your's doesn't but every single time I look at your left front lights, I SWEAR thats overspray, not a light cover, lol. Put some new pics up without the covers on em I want to see the car in its full glory.

Last Spring sometime I think. It would still look good it my wife had not hit someone with the front end. Hadn't had the resources to get it fixed so I patched it up myself. The paint is still shiny. You just need o take the time and wash it every week just to be on the safe side.

 

Hey Sonar, you're the first person to ever get my name right. Everyone else thinks Overclick. Anyways, where you're talkin about overspray I had some temporary covers for my blinkers there to pass inspection. If you check out my site, you'll see why. I do have the correct ones but I've been working 44hrs+/week, and I go to college takin 18hrs (FULL load), so i haven't had a chance to put em on.

I just got my car painted at Maaco last month. I had them strip the entire car and redo the who thing. They also repaired some rust and pulled out some dents. They did this all for $1200. They did a really good job and I'm very impressed. It also has a warranty. I think anyone who has been unsatisfied is because they take their car in looking terrible and pay $189.00 and expect it to look like factory. Also, the local shops wanted $3000-4000 to do the same job on my car.

so i take it maaco isnt that bad?? how long did they have your car for?what tips could u give me if i was to take my car to them in michigan? would it be less for me and a friend to sand it down? what kindof prep work do i have to do? do i have to tape anything off? windows, tires, sidemarkers, taillights etc? anything that would tell me more bout them would be great thanks!!

thanks OVRCLCK350 i appreciate it. and where did you fing it. i looked everywhere or did you ask your buddy. and i will call them tomorrow for a quote and find out where clive,ia is. i have no clue hopefully eastern iowa. would you consider MAACO to be show quality if you do all the prep yourself. i will tear everything down and reassemble myself. that is the easy part.
what minor tips would you suggest to make it perfect for the great cost of MAACO.?

hey i also plan to have my handles and antenna shaved. and does MACCO do pearl coats. i want my car RED with PEARL COAT. it is red now and the paint is nice but i am a picky a$$ and i want new. and i have some body work to do since some lady forced me off the road. she even left and didnt stop. and do they do any thing different for FIBERGLASS parts than STEEL. just curious. thanks again.

As far as show quality, I doubt it, unless you talk to them and make sure you get the HIGHEST quality. You'd have to ask them about the pearl and all that.

BTW, I got all this info off of their website.

 

Pearl on red makes it look too pink in some lights in my opinion.

 

CHECK OUT MY MAACO JOB. THEY DID LOT'S OF BODY WORK AND COMPLETE STRIP, PRIME AND PAINT. COST ME $2000.00 BUT THE CAR LOOKED LIKE S@#* BEFORE. THIS WAS DONE LABOR DAY 2000. JUST TOOK IT BACK TO HAVE MY NEW ASCD Z28 FIBERHOOD DONE. MY SUGGESTION; DO YOUR RESEARCH ON THE SHOP. SEE SOME OTHER JOBS. GET ESTIMATES FROM OTHER SHOPS BOTH CUSTOM AND REGULAR JOE SHOPS. DON'T DO EARL SCHIEBS PAINT JOB. MAACO IS BETTER. SEE THE PREP WORK BEFORE THEY PAINT. ONCE THEY PAINT IT IS TOO LATE. KNOW YOUR WARRENTY IN CASE YOU NEED IT. ALSO I THINK PEARL ON RED COMES OUT PINK AND MAACO IS NOT THE PLACE FOR 3 STAGE PAINT JOBS.

THANKS GUYS on the pearl coating i will stray away from it. and i have talked to other shops and they all want 3-5000 for what i want.. and i am picky and they wouldnt offer any warranties unless i paid 500 more. so i said forget it.. and i was just going to learn and do it myself with a friends help. he knows how to paint. but he doesnt have time. and will they do custom jobs like the handle or should i do that before.. ? thanks again all. this really helps.
