Engine Bay

What will clean this mess? The lady kept everything clean and up to date but she completely neglected cleaning the engine before i got a hold of it. The sad part is ive tried to clean it twice already but it was so freaking cold out i nearly got frost bite. But its warming up outside.

Alot of degresser, and water should do it. But before you spray anything on it, cover up with a plastic bag, your sensors by the fire wall, alternator and air filter. When finished cleaning remove bags and let motor run, catch open lope, and then drive it around the block so that all the water on the maifold and the other crevases can fall off. What have you tried to clean your engine bay with any ways???

I've used Simple Green to clean engine bays.

Go buy the 2 gallon concentrated jug at walmart, and a spray bottle. I diluted it in the spray bottle 75% Simple Green & 25% Water.

Spray the engnie bay down with the spray bottle. Don't wet the bay down with water before. Let it sit for about 5-10 min., then go in with a soft bristled brush to work the really tough parts. You can use a damp rag to wipe down the wiring harness and any other small parts.

Just rinse it when you're done and repeat on the really stubborn parts.

Clean the engine while its cool if possible. As for the wires, just wipe them down with water or spray the rag with Simple green. Just dont go hosing down your distrib. directly or any other important wiring parts.

Don't be scared about getting the wires wet. I've power washed engine bays countless times and never have had a problem. Just make sure you dont blast anything important.

lol see the thing is i wouldnt know what would be important. I have about a 6 months knowledge on engines which isnt much because i've learned bits and pieces of everything here.

** all of my knowledge about cars is which car can beat who and how much horsepower and torque a certain car has **

My dad said to leave the car running and powerspray everything but if i did that while its not running it could short everything?

Just remember:
cold water + hot engine parts made of metal = bad things

I use Greased Lightning Orange cleaner. You can get it in Wal Mart. I've found that it works FAR better than Simple Green or any engine degreaser that I've used.

I also use the simple green. But for real bad areas I use the spray can degreasers like Gunk. You just have to keep at it. Clean it a little at a time and you'll get it to where you want it. Then when you get it clean, a hose down about once a month with simiple green (or other degreaser) should deep it looking good.

Foamy Engine Brite works pretty damn good. It disolves all kinds of grease and sorta works like scrubbing bubbles does for your bathroom. You spray it on and it becomes clean. Simple green is good for areas that you want to scrub with rag.

I've had that stuff leave white film on the fenders, even after using a power wash to try to remove it all.

azvolfan I think that simple green made you intake manifold change colors . I used some grease lighting and it did wonders for my engine bay.

DO NOT leave the engine running when doing this, because if something happens to ground out you would be in a world of serious problems, at least if you clean it and it doesnt start you wont be in such a tight spot.

-When i cleaned my engine bay i put a bag over my distributer and air cleaner then powerwashed everything... Then when i started it it ran a lil rough and the check engine light came on... I just jiggled the spark plug wires a bit at the distributer and at the plug ran fine after that, and ive gotta change thos anyway.

Yeah, after I got that painted, I looked at it and thought it was not exactly the color purple I wanted. Oh well.
