Black Chrome

Does anyone know if they make black chrome in a can? It's similar to chrome but more discrete.

I would like to use this on different trim peices but can't find it anywhere.

If they do, I'm sure it'll be just as fake and cheesy looking as the "chrome" spray paint that's available.

^ times 10. I have yet to see a chrome rattle can paint that actually looks like chrome. Not to mention one that won't flake off either.

Proper surface prep will allow the paint to adhere properly. It still doesn't look like chrome tho.

Yeah, I guess I wouldn't use the regular chrome where it was prominant. I was thinking that black chrome has a more subtle look to it. I thought I actually found a can of it but it was really just metalic black with little speckles in it.

The only other thing I found out doing searches is that a lot of high end manufacturers are using black chrome for trim on special edition cars. This only makes me more frustrated.

They make a lot of metalic paints including Duplicolors 2 part system but the "Smoke" color didn't really impress me.

they make a real looking chrome paint though... but to buy all the tools nessisary to use it would be over 5 grand. some one on here was talking about buying everthing. i think its called mirra chrome paint?... kinda sounds right. anways they can add any tint of any color to it so im pretty sure they can do a smoked chrome. just finding it and some one with the equipment is the hard part.

Yes thanks,
I yahoo'ed black chrome and I seen this and another brand. There was issues with staining and adhesion with one and the process seems quite involved. The paint is expensive but may not be so bad if I just do small pieces of trim. One is sprayable but I don't have an air gun and the old compresser I have lets loose a lot of vapor. It may be the only option, but at least there is one.

For what this stuff costs, you'd save a lot of money by just sending your piece parts out to a chromer.

You could try these guys too.

http://www.xxxplating.com/

They can "chrome" anything and any color. The Impala on the front page is a local car to me. You'd never guess the bumpers were fiberglass.

These guys approached me at a show a couple years ago about doing some work for me in exchange for doing so advertising for them, but at the time I didn't think it was legit. Now I feel like a moron for not pursuing it.
