The 'Bird's wounded :(

Check out my cardomain page... A ran into me in the school parking lot. It totalled the car and I kept it, got a $2800 check. I also got my fogs in and a new system...

Does't take much to total a 15 year old car. If parts & labor are more than the blue book, it's done. Quarter panel damage like that is easily over that amount.

yeah that quarter panel would have to be cut out and a new one welded in. They totalled my 86 trans am just like this situation.

the insurance idiots totald the car. obviously it is not really totaled... cutting and welding in a new one would not be to bad really... i have sen worse be fixed for less than 2500... but that was without the painting.. i suppose that is what put it over the top......

Alot of places are starting to use the NADA guide now as well...

Well I was just driving through the parking lot...and wam she hits me in the side when she pulled out. I was already right in front of her...she wasn't paying attention. I got 3 estimates, $3400, $3200, $2900. A new door alone was $1200 I have the rocker gfx and a door. Her insurance gave me $3G minus the salvage money for keeping my car. No frame damage or nothing, door opens and closes fine. No she drives a 2000 Sunfire and it barely made a paint scratch on her bumper! Yeah paint job is less than 1 year old...

Damn, this is why I don't drive to school anymore! I've been hit twice in my school parking lot. And the other day some A-Hole stuck a piece of gum on my hood. I can relate to the frustration. Anyway, good luck.

I once knocked some kid out after I saw him spit on my car at school. I mean he literally did it right in front of me, as I was putting my key in my door He was in grade 9, and I'm not the smallest kid around. School hardly punished me at all, they had it on tape and everything. Plus I had no record for fighting.

Find a good used door, it will be half or less then a new one. That sucks that your Bird got whacked. Need to get some show car insurance or something when you get it fixed so if this happens again they will actually fix it.

Yes, try getting a new door, but you could just try getting a door skin. Also that looks like you could give the stud welder a shot.
I could probably have that fixed for about 500 tops here in my area.

1200 for a door.. jesus... I can go and pick up a manual crank door in near perfect condition (no dents of any kind) for 150$ with the glass in it... painting it would not be that much i think... not to mention unless the door is bent they could just replace the skin itself.. and i can get those for like $50... (although much less work if you grab the full door). Autobody shops. especially if they are the dealer ones.. are getting just crazy for thier prices.. Paint i can understand sometimes. depending on the work involved.. in something like in your case they are flat out crazy. probably did it because it was through an insurance claim.. well. now all you have to do is get it fixed, go through the state and have it inspected, and have a repaired title issued to bring it out of salvage (since it will be listed as such now since an insurance totaled it.)

No! It still has a clear title! If the vehicle is older than so many years, they don't mess with that. So thats no worry. We don't have any inspections in TN either. And I just got a door (same year, color, power), EVERYTHING on it for $100, and I just got a rocker gfx piece for $25. Now I just need a quarter panel and the door piece. I'm thinking about buying another car though, like a 240sx or a civic...gas mileage. Restore my car in 5-10 years when I have the money. I have a slow-azz v6 that gets 14-22mpg! It's just embarrasing when people are like "I bet that thing'll fly!" heh yea right...

v-6's can get horrid fuel economy too. as well as 4 bangers... a v-8 can get decent mileage depending on how it is set up.. high 20's for both hiway and city.. I will leave the grade of gas out of this.. I am sure another thread about that topic will spring up at some point now. Also i think the part that will cost you the most will be that rear quarter.. I think Year one has them... brand new.. either the full quarter or the skin. Wish i could find my catalog.... i should probably have them send me a new one

Yes one day it will be fixed as new, plus many many many goodies! Right now I'm in the search of looking for a '91+ Nissan 240SX. And guess what! Today in West TN we had some hail larger than golf *****! ....I live about 20 mins from Newbern (Dyer County) as many of you probably heard about the tornado's last weekend... but no damage real close. Anyway, so now I have a few nice dents to add to the chunk taken off my passenger side! heh

You should have gone Camaro shopping, and brought quotes to replace your car from used car dealers.

You should always present the case to the offenders insurance company, that regardless of what "book" says. You just want your Camaro fixed or replaced. What you find is that certain models of Camaros are hot sellers bring a price premium with used car dealers well over book. Those dealers know what sells and what doesn't. Don't forget to include tax, title, and other fees.

My 89 Formula got the hail, it is totalled. And Angelis before you start saying "insurance idiots" I am one so shut up. That's life and these cars are old, get over yourself.
Spiers, sorry about your car, it looks very nice.
