I'm Getting New Wheels Now, Help Decide!

Alright, I'm crossed between getting an upgraded cam or some new wheels. I'm really leaning towards the wheels because I need some bling on the side. I have a '91 Z28 in Mercedes blue and silver racing stripes(see pictures). I'm running on stock Z28 rims right now. I want some chrome 17" rims, but I don't think I want ZR1's(though they look great)... if I got'em, I'd be matchin my brotha BlueZee28. How bout Z06's? IROC's? C5's? Other?

What do you recommend? I want to spend under $500 for the 4 wheels. If you can, post 3rd Gen pictures with the wheels, or post a link. I don't need new rims, I'll happily buy good conditioned used rims.

Thanks Kids!

Yeah I'd say go with the cam. Wheels aren't gonna make it go any faster!

Cam keeps saying how he wants to go to the same shows as me this year and beat me out of all the trophies. a new cam install isn't gonna help him do that

get wheels. everyone knows our stock wheels suck like monkey sex

Silver or chrome rims would look good with the silver parts of the car. I think Chrome 17" IROC's with black/silver painted inserts. Other suggestions: 17" C6 rims, '02 Camaro SS 10-spoke 35th anniversary rims. Torq thrusts are kind of pricey i thought.

On average, how much do Torq Thrusters cost? I was considering 35th anni rims, Z06's, or C5's... but then I was reminded of the chrome IROC wheels.

i must say i love the color combo and the way your paint was done.....Looks sweet, for 500 bucks your choices are VERY limited for all 4 unless you manage to find a smashed up vette or somehting like that, personally i think a set of y2k vette rims would be perfect or the car......

Are you two actually brothers?

Nah, just buddies. We live a few hours apart, met through Z28.com. A while back, he came down and stayed a weekend with me, right before I bought this Camaro. He's a real cool kid, I swear we think alike. Hopefully in a few weeks, I'll go up to stay a weekend/week with him.

Back to wheels. I know I don't have a huge budget to work with, but like I said, I'll gladly take some used wheels. I found a deal(through this site), that I can get any type of new Z06's, C5's, ZR1's, or 35th anni's AND spacers for under $600(includes shipping). I was hoping to find something slightly cheaper.

Ah hahaha, yes I know the silver would match my stripes and such, but I want CHROOOMMMEEE!

As for the buckets and grill being silver, at first I thought it looked slightly tacky on the car, but in person it looks very very awesome. The car itself looks so much better in person, pictures just don't capture the color of the paint properly. When I was on the way home with the car(went to Illinois to get it), I met with BlueZee28 in Rolla, Missouri and that's when I really fell in love with my headlight pockets/grill. When our cars were side by side, my silver inserts really added to the vehicle and set it apart in a good way(Nick, your car is gorgeous too aight)

these are available for use without spacers and are decently priced...you could probably find them for under $600, which is less than a set of zr1's with spacers.

Nah, I want something a little more 'unique'. those type of wheels resembly ZR1's, and ZR1's are very common. That's why I was thinking something like Z06's, C5's, IROC's, etc. ... something that fewer cars have. Just the regular '5 spoke' style like that is around on all kinds of cars, I want something that will make me more identifiable... but yet also looks very solid on my car.

Are you talking about the ROH snypers? If so, they aren't chrome. I'm not sure how much they are for 17", I believe it's somewhere around $220 a rim.

alright, screw the wheels, go for the cam. i'm running those same wheels on my sportcoupe as what you have on your car and after a few hours of cleaning them up and repainting them, they look killer. if you've only got a $500 budget for wheels, i'd say either save up more money for your budget or get something else (ie, cam and pro-magnum roller rockers)

I vote for getting wheels. Finish the look of your car with the right set of rims. Chrome is a good choice for your color combo. The only thing I advise is that the wheel not be too open and void if you don't have a larger set of brakes under them. Little tiny stock brakes look funny under big rims.

There are only two distributors of ROH rims in the USA. I purchased mine from Group A, Inc. - Your Source For ROH, Simmons, and DeZenyo Wheels I can't remember the name of the other. Look for a used set on forum classifieds or ebay. Mine are 17x9 all the way around with 275/40-R17 drag radials on the rear. If I could do it again I would use 18x11 in the rear. There is PLENTY of room, at least on my car without ground effects. The 17x9 rims just got swallowed up and look normal. I wanted a fat tire look and didn't get it.

I bought my snypers used off someone on this site...they were $600 and that was before all the hours i spent stripping off the clearcoat and polishing...

with a budget of $500 though id say skip the wheels.

for an aftermarket rim, i was surprised at how heavy they were. a buddy had a set on his mustang that i borrowed for a little over a month when my car was down one time. they are heavy, but boy do they look good!

"IMO" i dont need lip..doesn't matter to me i just like the rounded 5 spoke design. [/QUOTE]

I was just messing with ya bro, cause you ragged on the stockers that I happen to have. For the blue car with silver stripes, the ronal firehawks with blue accents would look sweet IMO.

Well, I'll spend more than $500 but, not by much. I don't need to worry bout the tires right now, just the wheels. I want 17x9/17x9.5. I don't care for some huge fatties, just something unique.

How about EBay? Anyone have any input on buying wheels off Ebay? I'm always iffy bout buying from individuals online.
