Taillight mod orange to clear
Taillight mod orange to clear
Heres my plan, ill get 2 taillights from a junk yard then cut the clear section out of those. Ill also cut the orange out of mine then combine them together. Once i connect them, they'll probably be a little ruff so ill sand the grid line(which is were they'll connect) then repaint the grid lines so you cant tell. I dont know what you use to combine plastic, but i do know you can connect them just like you'd weld metal or something. Heres a before and after shot of what they should look like:

Should look pretty good. I didnt realize that B4C's came with the PI badge on the back, or did you add that?

Just make sure they still light up orange and aren't brighter than they should be and you'll be fine.
It's become a pet peeve of mine to see clear turn signals that light up white. Half the time I want to pull up beside the person and go "you know your
tail lights are broken" and then explain why. If they tell me they're supposed to be like that I'll just say ".....Oh. That's dumb."
As for bonding plastic, acetone works well. There are other things out there, but they all just do the same thing. Melt the plastic and then evaporate, allowing it to harden again. A walk down the adhesive aisle at wal-mart should be all you need.

Good luck with the cutting and glueing of the clear section. I don't think that will work well. Remember that some glues and epoxies will eat the plastic.
You are not the first person to try this, I've already done it but my project is still incomplete because I'm stuck on the corners. Be sure to measure the lights before cutting (measure reverse square and compare to turn signal square, etc), you'll find that they are not all the same measurements. I've also found it much easier to find cheap sets of the older IROC-Z taillights and use the clear portions from those lights. And finally, I would forget about the bulbs, I say convert to LED's and mount them yourself, much better control over the lighting and easier in the long run.

Not too difficult. Use polycarbonent which is easily bent into shape with a torch.
The ends can be spliced together with lead ‘H’ channel, which is also easily bent
and paintable. Your finished product will look like GM did it.
