Newbie Alert - Saying "hello"

Hey folks, after a few years away from my beloved 3rd Gen cars, I picked up a couple last week. I've got a real bias for super low mileage original cars. The 1,200 mile '89 TTA came from Minnesota. The 3,800 mile '85 IROC came from Pennsylvania. Although not an F-body, the '82 Vette has a documented 454 miles on the odometer. Have a look >>

http://mohotcars.com/iroc.html
http://mohotcars.com/vette.html

And if any of you like Vipers, here's a 2,500 mile one >> http://mohotcars.com/viper.html

Mike! Good to see you over here, my friend! Now you have to get a thirdgen that has low enough miles that you can actually take it out and enjoy it

Wow.

Those are some serious cars you have there. There are a lot of people who would kill to own those two thirdgens you got. Those originals might very well be referenced down the road by people try to restore their thirdgens, so be prepared to snap lots of pictures.

I'm such a sucker for vipers.

BULL!! Great to see you Bud! I wasn't able to find out much about these cars over on the PY board, so I jumped around ...

I'd be glad to take specific pics of the cars if it would help folks out. It might take a day or so since I store them in a separate climate controlled facility that isn't at my home address.

The IROC is 100% original except for the battery and fluids. The Vette is the same. The TTA is 100% except for the battery, fluids, and unfortunately the tires. It is pretty wild seeing cars with all the stickers, markings, chalk marks on the frame, etc.

Thanks for the compliments. I couldn't afford these cars when they came out, and I probably just barely can now. But better late than never!

very nice cars but i know i would never own something like that unless it is a new car. b/c i would not be able to spend a bunch of money on a car and then put it in a garage and never drive it... granted it will probably be worth alot of money later but i couldnt do it, it would be driven and therefor loose all of its high value of being a "new" car.

Wife? That's my daughter - As much as I might like it to be, my wife isn't that young :-) It's pretty easy to not drive these cars. I'm almost 40, and I've owned ones that I actually did drive. But I never owned collector quality ones, and I've found that's where the money is.

It isn't all about money to me, as I'm a hobbyist at heart. But if given a chance to own such low mileage ones, drive them occasionally, and then leave with a small profit - Why not do that? It's more interesting that any stock portfolio I've had, and it's a great conversation starter!

LOL sorry about that! But hey, you would want her to be with a 3rd gen man right?

J/K. Again, awesome collection man.

I agree about the hobby. Except for me its about looking stock and being as far from as possible. I pour everything I have into my car... and in the end I can say that I did it all myself. Its a great feeling and a fun hobby. When I am that old I want to have a collection just like that. Only all Camaro's. Congrats man.

awesome collection!

I have a question about the IROC, what material is on the sides of the centre console? I've never seen black on the sides with red interior, usually red carpet?

85, it's just the black plastic like the rest of the center console.

Abird, we'll have to hook up and compare notes!

The only thing about the '85 IROC that will hurt its future value is that this one is a non-TPI car. Oddly enought, he ordered Posi and 4-wheel disc, but not the TPI. When I asked him he said that it was 1985, and he didn't trust fuel injection as much as he did a carb. My how times have changed :-)

Welcome to the forums! You sure have good self control, if those were in my garage I would probably be out doing burnouts/donuts with them right now hahaha.

My self control has gotten better as I got older, reference the lack of MGD bottles on my curbside at weekly recycling time! It's an issue of time as well, since I don't have any.

I work more than full-time for the California-based company that I worked for when I lived there. That involved my traveling a good 40% of the time, to include a trip to China again in a couple of weeks.

And then in my 'spare' time I run my own musclecar business which takes a decent amount of time. Many of the things I sell never make the website since I just broker the deals or sell things the same week I buy them.

And lastly, I have an 18-year old college student and then a 3 year old boy plus a 10 month old daughter. So it's probably less 'self control' and more 'no damn time"!

Hey, real nice collection bud!

We're in Springfield all the time hanging out... bunch of us from a few various boards meet up and grab a bite to eat and have fun. I believe in July we're going to get together again, ya should bring out one of the cars!

Bring one out? It better be really close! Sounds like fun, hopefully I'm not traveling then ...

I added some engine shots of the cars. The IROC isn't much to look at (engine) since it's the base LG4. The TTA is fairly interesting though, as is the Cross-Fire setup on the Vette.

I would love it if you could take pictures of any of the factory markings and tags that you can find on the IROC, along with some general undercarrage pics. Finding cars like yours is a great asset for people who may want to do a concours-restoration in the future, even though that day is a long way off. I've been trying to catalog as many of these types of pics as possible in hopes of putting them up on the IROC Homepage for future reference.

Also, I noticed in one pic of the IROC that it looks like your fog light switch is one of the early styles that was under the dash instead of right under the headlight switch. That was a very rare option that I've only seen once or twice before. Could you take a couple pictures of that assembly too?

Thanks.

Well, Mike, as long as you aren't "borkering" any deals, you're still a-ok with me!

Any thought to getting a less rare/low miles car to drive and enjoy regularly, or do you already have one of those?

Jim, I've not even looked for the fog light switch - Now I know where it's at! I'll have to snap a few pics for you ...

Bull, the cars that I tend to buy/sell/turn to keep my dealer license are the ones I get to drive a little. Stuff like an '04 Vette, '02 Trans Am Collector Edition, '87 Grand National, etc.

So if you see me actually DRIVING a car, you can assume it's for sale. Otherwise I probably couldn't afford to own them.

And no, I don't do much borkering of deals ... Well, I try not to anyway!

Jim, I snapped a couple of pics of the fog light switch location that you asked for. I'll put them up in a separate thread over in the Interior section ...

I'd definately be down for meeting up with all you guys from springfield and surrounding area. Go out and get some lunch one day or go to the lake, snap some pics. Let me know what you think, I got another buddy with an 88 ZZ4 bird that would be down too.

I've been thinking, like Jim mentioned its rare for us to come across guys with the ultra low mile cars. One thing that has been hard to document is the actual original ride height of our cars. Most of us get higher mile cars with springs that are a bit worn and we never know exactly how much we've dropped the car. If its not too much trouble I was wondering if you could measure your ride height front/rear for us? I usually measure from the middle of the fender lip to the ground. Also, could you include the tire sizes on the car with the measurements? Man if you could hook us up with that info I think alot of people would appreciate it!! I know I would!!

Next time I get over to the cars, I'd be glad to measure all that. I'll also measure the midline on the front and rear just for more data. I've been into cars for over two decades now, and I'm glad to be able to give back to that community.

Yea original measurements will be priceless in a few short years.

While I'm not a huge fan of people building expensive, one off custom cars and not driving them I completly understand not putting many miles a year on ORIGINAL low mile cars like these.
