Custom wheels on Firebirds

Why is it (IMO) that custom wheels look sooooo SWEEEET on Camaros but the same wheels look like crap on Firebirds/Trans Ams?

My dad was thinking about getting some wheels for his '86 T/A, but the regular stock wheels look about as good as anything else out there on the car.

My GTA wheels are super-sweet looking on my vert, so I would never change them anyway, but I can't think of any custom wheels that would look good on the car.

Anybody got any pics of some custom wheels that look unbelievable on a Firebird? I see pics all the time of Camaros that make me drool with their shiny Foose's & Boyd's ... but the same wheels would look bad on a Firebird.

I've been collecting pictures of firebirds and Trans Ams with custom (or at least different) wheels for a while now. I'm still deciding myself...don't want to buy a set and not be happy.

Here's a few for my contribution to this thread. In addition to the ones I posted, I've really come to like how the newer 17" Trans Am polished alluminum wheels look (pretty much all of the WS6 versions).

I like the look of the ZS racing on that particular colored car. I've yet to see a red car with those wheels - hence why I'm staying away from them.

Anybody got any pics of the ZS racing on a different colored T/A? Maybe a photoshop?

A lot of you wheels look good, but they don't look anything like this:

And those wheels would never look as good on a Firebird as they do on this car IMO. I'm just frustrated because I like the looks of Firebirds better than Camaro's, but I just can't find any custom wheels that I think look drop-dead gorgeous!!!

Those are Torque Thrust IIs. And you're right, the Firebirds don't have the body for those wheels.

But the Boyd Coddington's look pretty good on Birds.

Now THAT looks nice ... wish there was a better angle on the wheels.

Don't know if it's the wheels as much as the tires, but I think that's the best looking wheel/tire combo I've seen on this thread.

The Black TA with the TTIIs kind of scared me 'cause it looked like it had a rice-boy wing in the first pic!!!! Just some sort of shelter, though ... whew!!

And for the record, I would totally do it with this car. lol.

Hey Bull!
Is that your car?
I didn't know you got those wheels. Looks great!
I haven't been on PY forums for awhile. Shows I am logged on, but I can't post. I followed the directions on the site, still can't post. Oh well.
So, what are you doing while school's out?

I would say the ROH Snypers and those rims that look just like stock iroc rims except there bigger and fully chromed. They look the best on thirdgens, They just go perfect togeather.

By the way does anyone know the name of those chromed iroc looking rims? There bigger then the stock iroc rims, thats why i know there not just stockers chromed. Also where do you get them from?

That is one sweet ride you have there!! What kind of exhaust setup is that? And have you ever run her on a 1/4 mile track?

SOLD!!!

I have been debating for a long time now on how would TT II's look on my GTA. I have seen some pictures before but these ones have sold me! My GTA is black, on sportlines, and tinted so it will more or less look identical to the one above. Sweet!

Does anyone know what size these rims are in the pics?

I agree - It has always been harder to find wheels that look good on a Firebird versus a Camaro. The lines of a car make a huge difference in how the same wheel looks. It can be done, but just like everything else, it's usually easier and cheaper to do it on a Chevy than a Pontiac.

thanks very much! I was waiting for someone to ask about the exhaust Hedman long tubes into some 2 1/2 sections of chambered pipe about 20" long on both sides of the driveshaft, into 2 1/4 pipe exiting out both sides via cast aluminum 4th gen tips cut into the gfx. I have never seen another third gen done like this, I had a b*tch of a time getting the tips to both look right and have enough ground clearance. no 1/4 mile times yet, but I just rebuilt the trans and I'm planning to go up this weekend. seems I have a similar setup as your car...hopefully I'll be able to turn similar times!

Sounds like a interesting setup. Is your car lowered? Seems like it from the picture. What kind of ground clearance do you have with the hedman long tubes?

As for my 383 setup, that time in my sig is with the aid of a 75 shot of NOS. My stroker is about 9.75:1, and I have a small head and cam package... WP Torquer S/R's and a LT4 hotcam. The head and cam combo is a long story. Plus with the bigger Morosso basepan that I use there is less room for a y-pipe, so my y-pipe is restrictive! On the motor I run in the 12.4's to 12.5's, and my mph is anywhere from 108-111.

This is why when you mentioned you had long tubes all these question's popped up in my head! Do you have any pics of your exhasut setup?

yeah it's lowered approx 2" (Eibach Sportlines). the header collectors are about 3" off the ground at the lowest point. I will try to take some pics tomorrow, weather is supposed to be good
