camero vs trans am
camero vs trans am
this is a simple poll about 3rd gen cameros and trans am. i was wondering what the public feels is a better looking car. what i like about 3rd gen trans am is the headlights and rear end. otherwise, they pretty much are identical. what appeals to you about either styles? i will say though, the late 70s model camero is my fav among any body style. but 3rd gen i defenitely go with poniac.
never heard of a camero? well thats what micheal knight drove in "wait a minute, that wasn't a camero!" okay, its what the guy in smokie and the bandit drove "wait, that wasn't a camero either!" didn't urkel drive a camero? lol, i'm playing. best looking camero i ever saw was from that movie "Better off dead" with john cusak. it was a SS, and totally awsome, but he could have drove a firebird.

The interior is basically the same as well but each have their own distintive differences. I have owned 2 Camaros so I am swayed by the Camaro style, but who knows in the future
well the whole question is simply about what is your fav look and why. for me they are almost identical, but do have things that sat them apart. for example, my 85 ta has vent spots on the fenders right before they meet the doors. i find that to look good. what does the camero have that looks good to you that a firebird or ta doesn't have? its a question of appeal. not that one is better than the other, but what looks good to you? thats the question.

I have a '91 Camaro Z28 and what I like are the "power blisters" on the hood, the aero-style ground effects and the high profile spoiler. I think it gives it a very muscular look. I believe that the firebird doesn't have this features. Although a very nice car I personally prefer the camaro.
your right on about the camero hood. that does look sweet. now we're talking about appearance. same as i like the hood on an 87 tpi formula. don't forget wheels and ground effects. its things like this that set chevy and poniac apart. i'm not talking about performance, but simple stock appearance.

Please, PLEASE spell CAMARO the right way.
I prefer the CAMARO, but I also own one. However, both are sexy as hell, and I'm looking to purchase a bird soon to compliment my car.

Thirdgens are my favorite out of all of the f-bodies. Me, I look at it from how much I can customize them. I view them as a huge potential. I'm thinking 4th gen dashes and door panel swaps, custom hoods and spoilers, aftermarket rims, c5/c6 brakes, even the knight rider front bumper is kind of cool, and all the other crazy stuff you all here do.
Firebird is my preference but thats what I grew up with. I really want to get a Camaro next just to have something a little bit different.

Ill chime in for the firebird crowd. I like the firebird better, seems more aerodynamic. I also like them better because it seems like everyone and their brother has owned camaro at one time where the firebirds are a bit more rare. Plus the firebirds have the coolest logo ever (Go screming chicken)

I think that Camaro's tip the scales on the better looking car. However, I always owned birds and there is something to say about that.
Birds were Pontiacs top performance car. Chevy's was the corvette. Also the fact that everybody has owned a camaro once in thier life time kinda takes the car mystique away from it IMO.
We can't disregard firebirds either, the "cool" screaming chicken came to be The "red neck" symbol.
I like the birds, and GTA;s and TA's are some fine cars oh and the Formula.

as far as this camAro and firebird pole goes. i love em both. the trans ams from 85-90, and the camAros from 85-92. i love the TA hoods and the 85-90 GFX, and i like that my gta doens have any fender vents. but i like the meaner look of my irocs front end and tail panel.
imo the camaros look more brutal, while the bird is alitle more finesse, but still maintains the f-body brutality.

if you're strictly talking about 3rd gen f-bodies then i prefer the styling of the firebirds/trans ams. i just really like that the lights flip up. the car just looks awesome with the lights down. lights up the car looks kind of goofy though. i also really like the 82-84 style rear lights.
as for my favorite f-body from all years i would say the 1970-1972 camaro. i hope to get one of these someday. i think they're the sportiest looking f-body. the earlier camaros don't look very sporty and the later camaros (late 70's) look way too long.

Interior- hands down the 90-92 birds and camaros (I say 90-92 and not 91-92 because in 90 the Fbodies got Airbags and the interiors were changed).
The birds didn't change that much between the 85-89 to 90-92 years, but it was improved upon. The awesome big-gulp size cupholders in the doors, and the big cushion pad below the steering rack instead of the plastic square bars looks so much better.
I really can not stand the camaro interior. The 90-92 is much much better, but the door panels and everything is so squarish and boxy and lines are everywhere. In the Birds, its much smoother looking and more cockpit like. I know the camaro guys prefer the camaros and that is totally cool. But the Fbird seats very much more comfortable than the camaros.
Exterior- I own a 1991 T/A and owned 3 85-90 birds. They each have their advantages. The nostalgia is with the 85-90 and I will always love the look. and smile when I see one, or any fbody of course. The 91-92 has that sleek father of the LT1 era Trans Am. I understand why people don't like the 91-92 because of all the wings, but that's why I like it. Looks like a fighter jet.
Now the camaros, hands down is the 85-90 Iroc. I would love a red 5spd Lb9 Iroc someday. I don't like the 91-92 Z28 for the same reason that people don't like the 91-92 birds. Too much body.
But if there was a poll, I bet the majority would choose the camaro as there are more camaros and thusly more camaro owners.

Birds look sleek and fast and the camaros have a strong stance and look fast. I love both but I do not like the cheesy gauges in the camaros. They do look good with autometer gauges swapped in and a tach or more gauges to fill in that big empty dash next to the cluster. The console is too squared off too. The birds interior is alot smoother.

I am really more of a fan of the camaro however the trans am's are really starting to grow on me. For me it is all about the ground effects and since its an 80's car, it should be squarer lol

I don't have the patience to read this long threads in this board, but:
If you've ever had a camaro drive up behind you in the dark, the headlights look like a pissed off shark. Very aggressive. Early 3rd gen camaros ('82-'84) are my favorite. late '80s camaros after that ('87-'89ish), due to grid taillights.
I don't really like the TA's that much, although I own one, it was due to convenience. That's a mistake, just so you know. oh, except for the factory smoked taillights, those are cool.

I'm a camaro guy but love the Firebird interior better then the camaro. I only like the Z and the 88 GTA body style, The Firebird doesn't look as good when it hit the 90"s. Just my opinion.

i become more and more unimpressed with camaros the more i see more and more people with them...i think its just a natural bordum attribute...however for the few camaros on this site that have really blown me away never get old

wow, i didn't expext to get this kinda response to my original post. i'm glad to hear the responses tho, many of you make a good point. sorry there was no real "poll" tho, but i didn't want to say "whats better, Firebird or Camaro?". lol, that would have been a war. i figure if i got a few opinions of what looks the best between them, then that would help people to decide the kinda look they want for their 3rdgen. for example, my old tpi 350 bird had a wrap around spoiler on back, would that look good on a cAmAro? i think so. sorry about the spelling of camaro earlier. lol, glad so many of you were nice enough to correct me.

I almost bought a camaro once, not by choice, as a matter of fact I didn't want it. But my dad had seen it on the side of the road for sale, $1500. Good deal, so I went to get a loan and when it finally got approved the car had been sold. A couple weeks later my best friend and I were looking for a car for him. At the corner of my eye I saw the taillight filler panel and the red firebird logo. We stopped to look at it and immediately he called his mom to see if he could get it...his mom just laughed at him and the thought of him owning a firebird. So I bought it. I love the 91-92' Beak front bumpers. I like the gfx also, but they look more aggresive without them(Formula). I will own a Camaro one day though, they have grown on me, and also a 91-92 Formula.
So...I like the Firebird better because of it's sleekness and it does have it's muscular look.

Maybe Im crazy, but, I bet if Camaro was spelled correctly in the title it wouldnt have been nearly as popular of a topic. I originally came in to more or less scold him for splling camaro wrong.

I thought of this theory a while back and I believe its true. Speaking in stock terms, a 3rd gen firebird does have the potential to look better than a stock camaro IF its had mods like paint and wheels and exhaust. Vice a versa for the 4th gens.
