thats pointless.. I bought my car to drive it so I can actually enjoy it, not sit around and look at it.

...and my undercarriage is as clean and neat as yours?!

I agree, but if you have other cars... use them instead of the third gen. I wish I had a beater.

thats pointless dude, you just undercoated your car, and took pics and said it was all clean. lol. You can see on the exhaust sheild where do didnt even do a good taping job. You can also see by the brake and fuel lines that under them is missed too.
And also you went cheap with it in the back by the exhaust where it makes its first bend to go over the axle, cause you can still see the old stuff....

DOn't listen to these guys, if you like to take care of your car. Then by all means, do so. I personally like to go to car meats and shows and look at cars, and am allways curiouse how they look underneath. When they are nice on top and on bottom, it impresses me 10 times over. Means that it is a whole package. And that it will be around years longer than the guys who let the poor cars rust to bits.

Anyways, since the last posters don't seem like they have much to post in terms of pics, here is my undercaridge. And I am proud of my POR-15 coating job.

back

and the good old *** shot to bring it all home.

I am done

Nice, those summit dif. covers look great and I bet add a good amount of rigidity. Maybe i should get one for my Moser 12 bolt??? Another thing to add to the, "will get over winter" list.

Hope people keep posting, these pics are almost more interesting to see than the outside or interior pics. Its something different, plus we get to see what really makes your car go.

Looks good man. I personally get under the car once a year and clean everything up and undercoat it. I think its a great thing to do and probably helps it last alot longer, plus it looks better. I clean underneath about everytime i have it up on a lift. I do the underneath with flat black, and wheel wells in gloss black.

I guess i just like keeping all the big-dollar items that are under my car clean. Aint nothin wrong with that!

Like Dennis, I'd recommend POR-15.

you know, I never got around to undercoating my car, but last year when I had to do the clutch swap, I spent a few hours taking off all the caked on grease and oil that was down there and I was suprised to see the stock paint and no rust....made me happy

POR-15 is a great way to go. If you wanna do rino skin that is allways another route. POR-15 will be less $. I saw a 69 once that was all rino lined in and out. It was done on a frame-off type resto on a rotisery. If you just wanna get some undercoating and don't plan on making a show stopper for years to come, then just get a gallon of POR-15, some zinc phosphate primer that they sell and go nuts. Stuff works great.

I did 2 coats under, 3 coats in the wells, and 1 coat inside. Once the car is done I plan to take a saturday and SLOWLY paint all the other parts in gray that are not allready Sphoon powder coated red. The light surface rust kills me. I hate seeing it on parts 3 days after i buy them. UGH!!

It will take a long as time, but when I am done it will all be sealed up tight.

More pics anyone? this thread is pretty interesting.

I like clean undercarrages too...
I was luck thou, My '91 was very clean. All I do is wipe on some of the light "Rust Check" oil (red stuff) using a rag to keep the underside looking good. I don't drive the car in the rain and up here in Canada the winters are a no-no...

How do you guys go about cleaning your underbody? Do you use a pressure washer, or just lots of hard scrubbing and elbow grease?

yeah i did it in my garage lol. i know its real shitty in some places but i really did it for rust protection...ive never even taken the car to a show before. i coated 75% of the underbody with POR15 and then i sprayed it with rubberized underbody coat for durability.

and nice pics Dennis!! ive always loved the underbody of your car, everything is new!

thanks for the pics so far, i made this thread so people could show off

and i do drive the car at least 2 times a week lol. im not the kind of person who would buy a car and just let it sit. if i had it my way i would keep the car garaged and drive it only on nice days.

Thanks for the compliment. I am def one of the lucky ones to get to put as much $ as I have into my car. I run out of $ again by x-mas, so I better be done by then. Looks like I will be.

Hey you guys seem to be checking this thread pretty often, does someone wanna go to utube and see if they can find my video I uploaded of my car last night? I can't check to see if it is there from my work PC.

Thanks guys.

one last thing. POR-15 is pretty wasy to clean too. Soap and water go a long way, just wish I was able to say how good it is against road grime. My car hasn't had a chance to experience that kinda stuff yet. Oh well. Soon enough

Turn up the volume really loud. The small digital camera had the mic on the top by my finger so the sound sucks. I will get a better video once I set my valves.

Here is the only shot I have. I cleaned and prepped the floor pan and painted with a undercar flat black paint. It looked awsome till the first time used the pressure washer on the bottom side. I will be using the POR- 15 next time I feel like doing that much cleaning.

What do you guys think about painting the exhaust to bring back the original color? As you can see mine looks like crud!

I don't get it....

just to clarify, is this the logic that goes on in your head:

clean car = no oil

Dennis, is yours the car with the lambo doors on it? I recognized the house and the mis-matched door and fender in the video.

When do you think you'll be done with the project?

+1

I havne't undercoated my car yet, there's no need really just yet. My car has a very clean undercarrige. I'll undercoat it before winter gets here because it doesn't look like i'll be able to afford a DD yet. Also, when I do the undercoating I'm gonna use the POR-15 or whatever it's called.

Some real nice looking underbodies on the various cars.

I'm not a fastidious car cleaner myself (mine's white, wax all you like and it still looks the same) but I can appreciate the work that goes into some of these. My underbody is clean and rust free but not undercoated or painted other than what the factory put on.

wow ur cars are reallly clean guys! good job. just cuz you have a clean underside doesnt mean u cant drive it.

my car had a bad oil leak for over a year. really nasty underthere, but i since fixed that leak and got most of the underneath cleaned up. powerwasher, a brush and lots of degreaser helps. i have a little ways to go, and i would love to undercoat the car with something, but thats way down the road when i actually get time to restore it up like that.

2 pics in link in my sig, mainly of my torque arm but u get the idea. not bad for a 150k miles car

i bought the car in ohio, im guessing it was driven in the winter. the floorpans were rusty too, i had to sand them down. milage wont cause rust though, its more where you live and what conditions you drive it in

Then why do you have random *** comments like that? He would need those before he needs a "polished alum ds"...

by the way your nice rusted rear-end and sway bar really breaks up the black well.

Man you guys have some nice underbodies Mine is fairly clean for having 85,000 miles on it and as far as I can see the 2 Illinois winters I had outside (under a cover) was the only time it has seen snow.

The only decent pic from under, would like to repaint some of the stuff with the rust on it and good scrubbing on the rest.

I didn't have a chance to read this whole thread but...

I undercoated my car, and I think the exhaust heat is starting to melt it off... It's really black and greasy everywhere, and I can't see any oil leaking in those places, so I think the undercoating is "sweating" off... Just an FYI, take a look at yours in a while, and let me know if it does the same... Maybe I just drove through too much fresh asphault...

But yea, I gotta get it up on a lift sometime and pressure wash the underside... But with a driver car like mine is, it leaks too fast for me to keep it clean

here's one of mine. i just got the exhaust done and subrames welded in. should have finished pics of it soon. the exhaust is custom 2.5" y pipe into a single 3" thru a dynomax muffler. best looking exhuast i have ever seen. the guy that did it has crazy skills.
