busted...

Ok so I was speeding a bit, my fault.. and I got wheeled over by smokey. He was a nice guy to say the least

Got nailed with like a half-dozen violations / fix-it slips, thank you very much.

So for one of them I need to remove the tint off my side windows. What is the easiest way to do this?? Will it peel off the window (if I can grab an edge?) and then remove the glue with Goo-Gone?

Any tricks or tips anyone can share? Obviously I don't want to scratch up the window or anything while trying to use a razor blade... but if I have to..

that sucks man same thing happend to me a while ago. What I did was start in the top corner and get it started with a razor blade then you should be able to peel it off in one big piece if you go slow enough. The glue stuff is a PITA becuase it takes a while to get it all off, but yeah just use goo-gone.

Haha oh yeah, the day after I got the ticket cleared, I went back and got 5% all around haha.

ya my tint on the side windows was 45% or 65%.. very very light.

but its off now.. peeled it off.. lots of goo gone followed by an hour of scraping with a razor blade. good wipe down with windex and paper towel and the job is all done.

BRO...stop...don't do anything!
I have gotten pulled over for everything from tinted windows to the car being too low. I have gotten away with it all...and this is how:

What you need to do is go talk to some other cops...tell them that you have fixed the windows. In many cases, the cops won't even look at the car, and they will just sign it off. In other cases, they will look at the car, and won't say anything..and they will sign it off.
It is worth a try. It is a shame to ruin your $200 tint job for nothing.

Tommy

I try to keep the windows rolled down as much as possible, but with winter coming up it's gonna be pretty hard to do!

I haven't had any problems with my tint YET *knock on wood*, I have 20% on the sides and you're only supposed to have 35%, and the rear doesn't matter.

What is the law in Canada? That's pretty freaking stupid you can't have 45% tint on the front, that's hardly even considered tint!

i have 17% on the front and back. i dont really care for it but it flows well with my car (black iroc) and it was on there when i bought it. got pulled over for laying drag (did a nice little powerslide into mall parking lot, 3 cobb county cars came out of nowhere! almost went to jail to say the least) but they checked it and said it was illegal but didnt ticket me. so im not going to bother with it

No tint what-so-ever from the drivers head forward in BC.. anything behind is up to you. So for F-Bodies that means tint on the hatch only.

Here in VA, its not the cops - its the safety inspectors, who aren't even government employess. I went to my Chevy dealer, and even as the mechanics were drooling over my WS6 hood and paint job, the inspector failed it because the 3 inch scoop "was too high". I went to the Japanese place that installed my motor and they passed it fine.

Now, the inspector says that VA is starting to crack down on cat-back systems because of noise, but passed me anyway. Whats next, they won't let us have Ipods in our cars?

Why does everyone complain when the state cracks down on safety regulations. Its there for the well being of everyone on the road.

Here in jersey I don't think your allowed any tint on the front windows. I don't understand getting a ticket for it being too low though, that doesn't make any sense...lower is better. I'm just waiting to get a ticket for not having a front licence plate...I know it's coming

Window Tint

I live in Kentucky and I have 80% tint all the way around on both of my cars. Both cars were inspected when I moved and they did not say anything. So at this point I feel very lucky.

Here in Cali we can have 70% on the sides, whatever we want on the back, and none whatsoever on the front unless its within a 4 inch strip at the top of the windshield.

it sucks. 70% is almost non existant, and I really want 10-15% or so all around.

out here, you'll still get pulled over and get fix it tickets even for LEGAL TINT all the time. you can always go and get them written off, but it's still a huge hassle so the cops still get their way.

regardless, before next summer hits i'm getting the max allowed on all windows. 5% out back and 70% on the sides.

um inspectors can't say anything about a cat back that is 50 state legal...
They say it is too loud, show them the reciept and statement from manufacturer on 50 state compliance. Then tell them if that is the only issue, pass it or I will have your inspectors license revoked for non compliance, because my car is perfectly legal.

thanks for the compliments. yes they're boyd coddington's magneto's, ordered them through discountiredirect.com

for the window tint (can't remember if I replied or not) but I simply peeled it off, then goo-gone and razor blade to get most of the glue off. Then a simple windex and its perfect.

Re: busted...

you guys are funny with all these remedies to get glue off. NO EGO HERE!

but i had the glue problem and came across a google search that used steel wool that has soap in it!(like brillo).......THAT WORKED SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD! then u use a razor blade to scrape off excess glue and material. You end up with a show room quality window!

for hard baked on tint, use the amonnia and garbage bag method. "SWEATING THE TINT"!

Wow I got pulled over alot b4, jus so the cops could ask me what I was running under the hood, exhaust, rims, ect. I had double 5% all around/35% on the windsheild & rear window louvers. At night it was like driving with my eyes closed...hahhaa, but it looked way cool.

I was going to suggest if you had to go to court for the ticket just find a picture of another f-body on this board or the net that looks just like yours minus the tint and show them that picture saying you took it off. Have done that before with friends.

in california you can not have 70% tint on the side windows-no tint is allowed. see vehicle code section 26708 (a) (1).
