RS or Z28

I am looking around for a camaro and i don't know if i should get an RS or a Z/28. I know the z/28 has more hp and is a better model. Should i take the time to find a Z/28 or just get an RS.

I am also looking around for a Firebird Forumla, Trans AM, or GTA.

I AM HOOKED ON THIRD GENS

depending on what you are looking for.
if you are looking for any kind of performance, make sure to get a 350.
Formula, GTA, T/A, Z-28.

I actually saw a BC4 at a dealer, it was pretty cool, but dont count on finding a police package RS, its hard enough to find a third gen with a 350 thats at a decent price and not beat to hell.

if you are looking to go fast DEFINATLY dont settle for TBI it will be one big disapointment when everyone on the road beats you. just be patient and keep looking!
good luck!

Yes, take it from first hand experience. Do not get a TBI. Best bet try to find a Z28. The RS's are just plain slow, they come with smaller wheels, and a crappier suspension. Thats probabally why they are ubiquitus, and cheap. Although, the RS that I have is fully loaded, and it has just about every amenity that you could get in any car, other than a glovebox or cup holders.

i have a stock 92 RS, hehe...yea it sucks, your races are confined to racing someone else that does not have a sporty-type of car, cuz if you do, youl have their license plate memorized by the end of the race

haha

Z28, unless its an RS convertable. Which will be about the slowest thing on the road, but they still look good.

I have a 92 RS, and though it's on the lower end in terms of power, what's wrong with upgrading it? I am getting a supercharger for it, and a billion other bolt ons. With that, I'll be fine

Plus, that's the fun part...putting things in.

I say get a Z28, I have an 86 SC with a rebuilt carbed 305 and it has a little more kick than stock, but I'm still achin to get some more ponies under the hood, I'm thinkin 383 be selective though, shop around and if you can look outside your area if you can't find one near you.

If you keep it stock (yea, right!) Get a Z-28. If you want to make it yours by replacing everything get an RS.

I just bought a 92 RS w/ a 5spd.. and the famed slower than all hell L03 boat anchor of a motor. It looks damn good tho. If you can find a Z28 w/ a 5spd, that is in good shape. I say go for it. Unless you have endless pockets, and are either mechanically inclinded, or again the endless pockets are a factor, look LONG AND HARD at the car before you buy it. Get under it, check ALL the fluids. Ask yourself if the fluids look the way they look(and in the case of tranny fluid and diff. oil, smell) b/c of normal use, or if the car has been beat to hell..

the RS I bought only had 72k miles, and was in pretty damn good shape. It needs a few things here and there.. window motor, and new front speaker. It's a blast to drive tho. It "feels" fast, but I know better than that.. the 87 WAS fast. I will post pics of both cars one day..

im getting a 91-92 3.1L RS in may. are they really as slow as you guys make them out to be? or are the just slow compared to a 5.7L. i didnt think they were slugs, like a damn Geo Prizim, but from what ive read it sounds like i could run faster then them.

so my question..
are the 3.1s incredably slow, or do they move, but you say they are slow beacuse your used to 5.0 TPIs and 5.7 TPIs?

What's wrong with an RS if you plan on doing an engine swap? 3K later and I've got ~330hp with a TBI system. I love TPI but I also love the TBI, it's an electronically tuned carb which has a great torque curve. NJ Speeder is running 14.2's with an auto 91 RS with the stock L03 bottom end and STOCK cam! So it isn't all that bad. It's usually cheaper so you have more money for other stuff like No2 . If anybody can get me a super high flow TPI system WITH injectors AND ecm/chip for under $600 PLEASE let me know. Too many pieces and too expensive for a college guy like me.

The 3.1 aint that slow... as long as you get the 5-spd...

Besides, they are great on gas, and a lot of fun to drive... They are lighter on the front end, so they tend to be a little more nimble.

I love mine! (although, by the time I am out of college, it should have an L98 with a WC-t-5....)

How much are you looking to spend? This one is for sale...it started life as an RS, but things have changed a little over the course of time. It has tons of suspension upgrades, a T-56 six speed tranny and a 500hp 350 in it.

note the "plan on buying a V6 and then selling in 2 years" part. i dont see how a 5.7L v8 is a v6? inssurance would kill me. and i posted before about buying your car. at most im spending 5 grand, cause i can get a car like that, in that condition at the dealer auctions my dad goes to, for like 3 grand.

I just got a '92 RS and sold my '85 Z28. If I had it to do over again, I would have kept the Z! The RS is newer and thus in better shape as far as the body and interior are concerned, but the Z was fast and much more fun to drive! Get a Z28, you won't regret it!

i have a 1989 RS with a V8 and i beat a 92 RS with the same engine. He had a flowmaster and a i have no mods on mine. I beat the hell out of him. It was fun. at the same time a chrysler sebring wanted action and i smoked him too. RS is fun but a Z28 is a blast to drive. My friend has a 92 Z with a 305 tpi and i beat him 1 out of 2 times. He said he did not shift right and that is why he lost the first time. The second time i had too much wheel spin but i did not make it an excuse his car is faster. Any way we both have it at 1 and 1. IT was fun. Go for the Z28 and thats the bottom line cuz i said so.!!

I am wanting somewhere around $10k for the car complete. Considering I have about $15k in it...that is one hell of a deal. I have another post on here..it is a few posts down and it is titled..."I AM SELLING MY CAMARO...ANY ITERESTS." It tells all about the car.
