Opinions on lacquer paint?

Anyone have any opinions, positive or negative, on lacquer-based paint? So many ideas have been thrown at me, hard to tell which are true.

Any help appreciated.

Needs a lot of hard work to get smooth and nice looking, then needs lots of TLC for upkeep. Old-school. Doesn't last as long as urethanes or base/clears.

expensive, the paint for my car was $200/gal. It looks great when its taken care of but gets dull real fast and is very hard so impacts can crack the paint. I like it b/c it lasts forever compared with enamel, urethane and other paints as long as its taken care of. But most won't care for it properly, so your better off with a urethane type paint.

as far as my understanding goes, it is illegal to buy or spary laquer paint in the US anymore. I might be wrong though.

Last time I bought it was November and its still available in PA. So I don't know if localized it was made illegal by you. I think car manufacturers can't use it b/c of the environmental hazards of spraying a few million cars with it every year.

It may vary by state, but in MA it's illegal to buy and use laquer for anything other than a restoration on a car originally equipped with laquer. Laquer looks great, but is very brittle and isn't good for a daily driver. Urethane paints look just as good and require substantially less maintance.

my laquer paint looks so much more slick than anyone's car around here. My buddy and I got our cars painted the same week. His wasn't laquer, mine was. Both painted by the same guy. My camaro looks better than his now, and it did when we got them too. His car is babied as much or more than mine.
