85-87 IROC wheels on with some int. pics and a burnout vid

just recently aquired another set of 85-87 IROC wheels with gray inserts. not sure if i should leave them (they are in surpisingly good shape) or if i should paint them black. the fronts have a sumotumo tire on them and the backs are wrapped in nitto 555R drag radials. the light in these pics isn't as good as it could be unfortunately. by the time i got the car washed and to a place to take pics, it had clouded over

i also realized that i don't have many pics of the completed interior up. fourth gen seats and check out the clusters i've built.

and here's a link to a burnout with the 305...some folks were interested in it on another thread so here it is:

How do you like those Nitto's? Do they hook up pretty well on the street? I remember I pm'd you a month or 2 ago about them and you were talking about getting a set.

I like the interior too, the cluster looks awesome, although I'm surprised your not running the tach on the right side as opposed to the left, most people I've seen seem to run it the opposite of yours. Still looks cool though, what'd you use to make the cluster, just a slab of plastic or something?

Looks excellent, very professional looking, any reason for swapping the taillights though? I kinda liked the way the grid lights looked on your car.

cool, looks good. Nice burnout.

The older tail lights give the car an "older" look so i guess it goes with what you were trying to create.

The Tach on the left gives you a better view than on the right, if I ever do mine again I`ll do it that way, looks good

Also wanting to know why you put those taillights on. The others looked so sweet on there.

Interesting, I always thought it was vice versa. I guess you learn something new everyday.

the nitto's really don't do what i figured they would...i'm kinda dissappointed. i wouldn't suggest them to anyone putting big power down.

the reason for the tach on the left was really just for visability's sake.

the taillights? i wanted a change i guess. i've still got the grids and may stick those back in at a later date.

So maybe the BFG's would be better for hooking then? I'm assuming the Nitto's at least hook better then the 712's you were running before right? I know you just got the Nitto's, but have you tried heating them and then launching it?

I didn't even notice the tailights before, I just glanced at the pictures, but I don't really have an opinion on them, I think the older ones look basically just as good as the grids. The give it a different look. But not in a bad way.

they do hook better than the 712's, and i did notice after the burnout that they hooked better than they had, but they still aren't the best tire out there. the BFG's are better, but they don't handle as well (i'm assuming you're wanting to run these in autocross, since that's what you were into last time we chatted.)

i have to agree with that, i really liked the grids on there but im glad you got some 85-87 irocs again they are the best looking wheels for your car imo but i like them alot better with the black inserts like you had b4, the polish on the old ones helped out a ton as well. i also like the look of the lower profile tires im not really a big fan of skinnies/fatties. btw does your console have any carpet on it, it looks pretty good like that?

No, these would be a street tire, I'm running a crapy pair of 711's right now on the street, and I can nail it in 2nd at about 35 and break loose, forget about going from a dig anywhere. They just don't hook at all. I've thought about a pair of Sumitomo's for the rear, a lot of people I've talked to seem to like them, but I figure the Nitto's might just be a better choice for the street as long as I could get about 15,000-18,000 miles out of them.

I do still run Auto-x (drag racing is really starting to interest me though) and I just run a set of stock camaro wheels or some steel wheels on just a decent set of street rubber for the cones. Eventually once I hone my auto-x skills a little more I'll hopefully step up to a better and lighter rim/tire combo.

i say make the inserts black. taillights are up in the air for me. interior looks amazing. i like the 85-87 irocs on your car. and lookin at the pics, the bottom kinda looked silver...that might actually look cool if you did that.

i really like the way youve organized your dash cluster. very nice.

theres something about your rear turn signals, if you did to that what you did to your grids, i think it'd look just as good.

The reason is because of the keys. I did mine like mw's then noticed the tilt adjustment lever is in the way. I just set it where i wanted it and took the lever out.

Very nice Matt. I like the 85-87 IROC rims better than all of them. Makes the car look meaner to me. I'd go with the grids but thats just me. About the cluster, I always thought it was easier to see the Tach on the right side rather than the left. I drive with my left hand on the wheel and my right on the shifter so seeing the right side of the cluster is easier for me. Nice car though dude, I love it.

MATT, i was referring to your sig, in your sig you have the grid style lights, and i think the turn signal is painted red to match the rest of the grid lights. but on the car your showing us in the pics, and i see you have the seperated style lights with the turn signals yellow. im just sayin that if you painted the turn signals red then it would look good.

PS: what are those tires on the car the ones described in your sig? the M/t's? or are they a diff dimension?

those are not the tires described in my sig, they are infact a nitto 555r drag radial in the 245/50/16 size. the ones in my sig are the kuhmo 712's on 88 IROCS or the 275/50/15 M/T's on rodlites.

the sig pic has been altered to get a cool effect, the grids have yellow turns in real life.

Ditto and i dont know anyone who doesnt drive that way...i mean ya sure when im crusing i may have 1 arm out the window and 1 on the wheel but when its business left arm on the wheel and right on the shifter...with the tach on the left side it would seem annoying to look the opposite direction.

Its all preference but to the rest of you is that the only reason or am i missing how it is easier to see on the left side of the cluster?

on my integra, the tach comes factory on the left. perhaps it has something to with it being rhd in japan? maybe its on the right for domestics.

I think gunmetal might look better on your rim inserts than black. Either way, it'll look great.

Nice burnout. Lots of power in that 305. Mind if you got a video of your idle/exhaust. Its in there faintly for a split second and I'd say thats a tease

When you watch the video look at the other videos in his photobucket. He has one of when it had the solid cam in it.
