My friend gave me his megashifter cause he got a gate shifter for his 85 camaro. but he had a custom shift plate made and kept it for the new shifter. so i need to make something. i have access to a machine shop and i was thinking of using aluminum and giving it a machined finish...but my friend just told me he has some brand new diamond plate leftover that i could use for it too. what do you guys think?

I think the machined aluminum would look pretty good. Besides, I've never been a big fan of diamond plate. It looks better on the outside of trucks than the interior of cars.

I would stick with the alum. Also jimmy-jams has a console plate for the megashifter with some buttons in place of the ashtray for all sorts of accessories/NOS.

What I did in the past is use black ABS 3/16 thick with the proper etch finish, it looks a lot cleaner. You can get it from houses such as curbell plastics or Aetna plastics. If you need, I have small pcs I could sell from .062 thick upto .250thk I dont have all that much left in my shop but I do have some. I used it to make body panels for my mini outlaw racer when I ran circle track. It was a lot more forgiving than sheet metal but there was a weight trade off.

hm, i dno. the shifter is kinda messed up anyways. i might not even bother. i dont like the switches, i like a closer to stock look better. a couple nice things dont bother me, but i like the car plain and simple with a nice touch.
