Paint work has started (pics)
I just got back from checking on the status of my '89 IROC. My vette buddies think I'm crazy for spending $9 grand on paint, weather stripping and new lighting.
But I'm sure you guys would agree that the cost is worthy of my recent acquisition. This ride was a deal I just couldn't pass up. New crate engine, new 5 speed, all new leather interior all with GM parts and tasteful mods. All done by the local Chev dealer with all the receipts. All it needed was great paint. This will be my "Boulevard Cruiser" and rightfully taking its place in my garage with the other fine Chevrolet machines.
If you guys have any ideas for wheels & tires, post 'em.
What it looked like last week:

What it looks like today:
Getting ready for paint, block sanding. Color coat and 3 coats of clear.

Hey guys, thanks for the links. They are coming in handy.
The paint was just ok. the front fenders, hood and front facsia were repainted already but looked like crap.
I was going to paint it silver/black, but it was going to cost another 3Gs to pull the engine to paint the firewall and inner fenders. The 'unerhood paint' is in pretty good shape, so it's back to factory red/black
----------
21 year old kid rolled it up in the local mountains... Told the insurance company it was stolen. Cops found out it wasn't. Now he's looking at fraud charges and the insurance company denied his claim. What a Dumb ***...
It's a total. Bent frame, broken axel housings... it bought the farm for sure.

I am glad you are painting it up stock again, that is a beautiful car. For graphics I would use the 3M graphics. I am pretty sure I got mine from Classic Industries (its been 8 years). That's what I used and they have been absolutely top quality.

That was quick! That's going to be a beatutiful car! Are you going with the same color or are you changing it? I wish I could have gotten my car done in a metallic bright red.
Sure hope you told the shop to keep the rocker and rear bumper emblems, you can't buy those any more.

It must be great to have money! What's wrong with the rims you got on there? They are pretty popular on this board. You could paint black stripes along the spokes. Are they 16" or 17"?

you know it would look really cool if you painter the silver and black stripes around the car vs putting the decals on.

please tell me your going to put some junk rims on there when you start spraying. 9k for paint is way high, but paying that much you know its going to be exactly like you want it i guess, if i had money to throw around id probably do the same.

Hey Maroon... those wheels look great on your car (in signature) you're making me re-think the whole wheel thing. What size are those tires?

Yep, they are 16"s. But I really like your set up Maroon. I'm sure the painter will put rag wheels on for paint... I better make sure though.
Here's a few for ya:

Very cool! Are you guys going to the National Corvette Museum C5/C6 Bash in April? It's in Kentucky. If so, I might see you there. We are going to caravan up with about 100+ vettes from California

Most definately! What I would give for a '64 Z06 in silver...
Along with my Z06, I have a 2001 coupe that puts 425 horses to the ground. But what I really would love to have is a '93 ZR1 Anniversary in mint condition with low miles. I have found a few, but nothing under $40K
If you get a chance, post a coup0le of pics of that vette!

no probably not. we are just active in the local scene. my grandfather however had a 66 corvette that was in the museum for almost two years. if you've ever seen the disney movie remember the titans you've seen his vette, it is the maroon one that sunshine gets out of when he comes to meet the team, he has it back at his house now its no longer at the museum.

Good point, another good choice for a C4 is the '96 Collectors Edition LT4 or the Grans Sport (not too fond of the paint sceme though) but there 500 or so known survivors of the anniverary ZR1.

heres the 66 that was in the museum and remember the titans! this is the only picture i have and it is a photoshoped picture but all i did was lower it a little bit and put moons on the trailor.

and here is the 63 back in the 80's coming over from hawaii! this is b4 he restored it, doesnt look like much b/c back then it wasnt but its worth a couple bucks now. he had flares on it and a couple other things he has since did a full restoration with everything detailed from the light oversray on the underside of the hood from the factory to the chalk markings on the frame.
