Once and for all - are GTA wheels powdercoated or painted in the center?

After much internal debate, I've decided to stick with my gold GTA wheels (getting 255/50 and 245/50 Falkens installed today). However, like most others, my clearcoat sucks on the outside rims of the wheel. The gold in the center is in perfect shape. My question is - are the wheels painted or powdercoated? I've done searches and came up with different opinions on this. The reason I want to know, is because I want to remove my clearcoat and polish the outside rims. If the center of the wheel is indeed powdercoated, I think I could use weak spray on paint stripper to get the clearcoat off (concentrating on spraying the stripper on the outside rim), without harming the gold centers. If not, I guess I'll have to go with the sanding route. I was just thinking that if I was careful, I could strip the outside part without harming the centers.

Im pretty sure its paint... Someone posted the color match to it somewhere so you can match the paint after you strip them down. I guess it could be the color match to the powdercoat...

But here is a stupid question. Did they have powdercoat back then? If they did, which they probably did, would it have been used in applications like that back then? I thought powder coating was fairly recent stuff.

Plus I would think powdercoat would make a smoother surface after it dries. There is plenty of roughness to the center section of the GTA wheels. Its not glassy.

So I say its paint...

Thank you very much. I guess that pretty much only gives me one choice on stripping the clearcoat (unless I want to paint the centers again). I don't know where all those people got the powdercoating idea either.
