Another detailing tip

I found another use for WD40 today. I race my car a lot i guess you could say, so i get rubber all over the side of my car. Well this past Fri i went to the track with some new tires and the rubber on the side of the car was really really gewy. I finally got around to washing my car today and I couldn't get the rubber off not matter what soap I used to how hard I scrubbed. I grabbed the can of WD40 and sprayed it on the car and it wiped right off. So if your like me and you like racing but also like having a clean car that could be helpful to you at sometime.

spraying pam cooking spray on the quarters and wheel housings before racing helps in removal as well.

A friend of mine races snowmobiles and he has all kinds of decals on his hood. We change them out frequently and WD does the trick.

Be sure to reapply any protective finish you may have had on your paint (waxes, etc). WD will remove most of those too.

if you have nice paint don't do this...

i made magnets and sometimes use anihilation tape or similar white tape you see on new cars.

Re: Another detailing tip

Just use 3M blue painters tape on the areas of the body panels that get all the rubber bits on them. When you're packing up to go home just pull the tape off and you're done. Yeah, it looks a little goofy but if your ultimate goal is taking care of cars finish, who the hell cares how it looks? Get the good stuff though, genuine 3M blue painters tape. Detailers use it all the time to mask off rubber trim so the polish doesn't build up on it. It will not hurt your paint - I do it all the time. WD40 will strip your wax off, the tape won't.

Baby oil also works to keep the rubber from sticking.

Re: Another detailing tip

best thing i find personally to do is (and not all waxes will work) apply wax on the quarters (or wherever your getting rubber) and leave it on. it must be wax that will not damage the paint or harden itself to the paint job. i use mothers carnuba and its just as easy to wipe off if you left it in the sun for hours. anyways, once your done racing, just wipe it off and there you go....i wouldnt do it on a mint paint job though, i'd just use blue painters tape...
