Which is cheaper?

Every time I wash my car, I get upset cause thats when I notice all the small hairline scratches and chipped areas of paint on it. My car is a 92 with 64,500 miles with the original black paint with many small problems. It has about 5 small (around the size of a dime) rust spots, the front ground effect is flaking, the front nose piece has a crack in it, and then it has a bunch of tiny scratches and chips in the paint. What I'm asking is would it be cheaper to have the body shop fix up all these small things or should I just get the whole car repainted black? How much would it be to repaint it good, i.e. not Maaco. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

it can varry, it all depends on how much work you do, if you do as much prep as possible you could get off with a small bill, if not...well I hope you have a good job take it around and get estimates, that's about hte only way you'll really know

How much prep could I do? I'm 16 and don't really know what needs to be done or how to do it.

Think about it this way: Which roads do you like driving on better? The ones that have the cracks and potholes patched up, or the ones that are repaved entirely?

Might cost more in the shortrun, but you'll be happier in the long.

i'd say save up for a good new paint job. I'm saving for my new hood and paint job right now. the problem with patch work is that usually the body shop can't match the paint. (Mine is actually a blend of two paints, and i always have the same guy do my body work, next trip is in a few weeks)

My dad paints cars for a living and I see both done everyday......The problem you might encounter is that the newly painted paint will have more shine..now if the rest of the paint is in good condition then maybe a buff will make it look even......If you got rust in different area then you will need to sand and paint that section and blend it with another section so it doesnt look bad.....In other words...its alot of work and little patches and stuff like that usaully are alot of money if you want it done right.....I would say get the car painted and then youll have a bad a** car.....My dad just threw a black paint on mine and i love it.....I cant give you a price but i would suggest to go get estimates and dont always go to the cheapest guy because the others charege more for a reason
