RS Grill???

Just a quick question... I had an accident with my RS a few weeks ago and I'm having it fixed up. It needed a new bumper cover. Im wondering, are all the Camaro bumper covers the same minus the inserts, or are they different? I've never seen my RS without the black grill in it so I'm not really sure what i'm looking at...

Re: RS Grill???

You mention both bumper covers and grills in your post; not sure which you are trying to identify.

Yes, the bumper covers are different depending on year and model. For example, Sport Coupes have a different bumper cover than Z28s. '82 - '84 Z28s have a different cover than '85 - '92 Z28s, IROCs, and RSs. '82 - '84 Sport Coupes have a different cover than '85 - '87(?) Sport Coupes, etc... In your case, you will need a cover for an '85 - '92 Z28, IROC, or RS.

The grill inserts themselves are also different depending on model and year.

Re: RS Grill???

well the bumper cover they put on my car looks like the Z28 cover without the Camaro logo in the center. The thing in the middle is body color, does this mean they put on the wrong cover?

Re: RS Grill???

EDIT: OK just re-read it

You're saying the insert is body colored?

Re: RS Grill???

Is it a fog light type insert or the "grill" looking one? I know '92 Heritage edition Camaros got body color (white?) inserts.

Re: RS Grill???

Oh, sorry I musta misread what u wrote... Its a fog light type insert... Looks like this, only without the 3 slots in the top, and it now has my 91-91 front gfx on it...

Re: RS Grill???

That actually looks like there is no insert at all. Those slots are in the part referred to as the bumper cover. The insert goes in the opening below those slots. If yours does indeed have a body color fog light type insert than perhaps it is one for a '92 Heritage Z28.

Re: RS Grill???

so is it safe to assume that they put n the wrong cover? Now that I think bout it, I dont think the black Grill insert will fit over this....

Re: RS Grill???

OK, I think I have broken through the confusion (mainly my own!) If your '91 gfx fit, than the bumper cover is the correct one. Your stock black RS grill insert WILL fit!

Re: RS Grill???

I'm sorry for the confusion, i'm just gettin a lil fustrated. My car has already been in the shop about 2 weeks longer than it should have been and the shop manager is feeding me lies all over. We spoke onthe phone and he told me he was waiting for the bumper cover, and then it will be painted and ready. A few days later, he told me he was waiting for a set of tires and then it would be done. I called them up and I was told it aint ready cuz they are waiting for a door handle but other than that, it is all ready to go... yesterday I went it to see it. It was still in pieces. In fact, it was pretty much the way I brought it in after the accident. I saw it again today and I noticed the bumper and it seemed a lil off to me but I couldnt figure out whether it was a cover from an older year or if just the black grill insert was missing...

Re: RS Grill???

Ok all you need is a 85-92 Front Bumper Cover. Look at the parking lights, they wont fit in an older model bumper. Neither will the 85-92 gfx fit an older bumper. Most likely it was on but it was missing the actual "insert"

There are 3 inserts offered. Standard slotted RS grille which is what your car came with from the factory. Then 85-90 Irocs got the grille that said Camaro on it to fit the fog lights. 91-92 z28s that had fog lights got a grille with just a bowtie instead of Camaro in the center. All used the 85-92 Bumper Cover just the insert or the gfx on the bottom were different.

Hope this all makes it a little more clear for you.
