Tint !!

I want to tint the back window on my 92 firebird. What % should I get it done? I still want to be able to see out of it when I back up though.

Re: Tint !!

I have 5% on mine and I see out fine even with a black interior. If you think thats too dark go with 20%.

Re: Tint !!

I agree with Billsblue89.

Heat rejection on my tint was:
5%= 64%
20% = 55%

I found the reduced glare on sunny days when looking in the rearview mirror makes the 5% very nice.

You can see out the back during the daytime with 5% no problem. It's only at night that it can be a problem. Even then, it's dark anyways. Just take it easy and you'll be fine.

Re: Tint !!

Double layers of 2.5%. No flipping the mirror for jerks who like to follow too close with their rice burner blues and no glare. I really wouldn't put 20% or more on there to me there isn't any point unless it's blacked out but hey it''s your car.
Night time is when you have probs especially if side glasses are dark too.

Re: Tint !!

Depends where you are located. If you are in a place of lots of sun 5% would be perfect in back. If you are are in an area that is frequently overcast then 15% might be what you are after. I put 5% over the factory tint on the back of my truck. I can see fine during the day but at night I need to open the rear window to back up. I have 15% on the sides and have no problem anytime with vision, including going out to the desert at night. Make sure you go to a place that has good tint. The tint I got is FormulaOne and is warrantied to never fade or change colors. Plus it doesn't interfere with my GPS for my Navi or the reception on my XM.

Re: Tint !!

Anyone have any suggestions on how to remove tint from a heated back glass? I'm leary of getting a razor blade near the rear defogger.

Ususally I just peel the film off then saturate with windex and scrape with a metal razor blade, but for the back if you dont want to take the time with meatal blade try buying the window scraper from Sears and it should come with a plastic blade, you could try that. My cousin had to take the tint off his side windows recently, I think he pulled the film and then used acetone on a rag. More work but not that bad.

Check your state. There are likely to be laws regarding how dark you can go. I know in New Mexico, 20% is the legal limit.

Re: Tint !!

I went with 30% on the back of mine. The appearance from outside the car looks just as dark as any other tint unless you're standing right at the car. Obviously then you can tell. From a distance you really can't tell the difference between any other percentage.

Inside the car is why I went with 30. Regardless of what the other folks with bionic night vision will tell you, common sense will tell you that you can't see as well with darker tint. During the day, I don't really notice one way or another, but at night I can tell it's not factory. I for one don't like driving with tint at night, but 30% is a fair compromise IMHO.
