Question for firebird guys.

I see this sweet firebird everytime i drive into a certain town and i don't think it's moved in a year it seems like. It's perfect black painted, and it has gold wire/lace rims. Well anyway the question is whats the easiest way visually to tell what it is? It's not close enough to the road to see the badges and I don't want to pull into the driveway right up by thier house. People don't really like people snoopin around their cars and/or houses!

The Frong nose/headlights will tell you if it's pre-91. And assuming it's stock, you can then look at the hood, spoiler, and rims. Sometimes (I know for the Camaro guys) the location of the badges change.

I think that with all the goodies available to make duplicate trans ams, formulas etc. it would be hard to tell. Like my car has the GTA hood and crosslace, and I'll be buying the GFX soon. But just like overclck said you can at least guess what it is by knowing what GFX, hood, decals etc. came on what model.

If you're interested in the car you should just go and check it out up close. And just to be sure that what it has is factory stuff. just write the vin down and use the vin decoder.

Look at the fenders, if they have a cutout near the door, it's a trans am, at least the fenders, are.
Maybe this will help some, to see if its a trans am.

the gold diamond spoke rims say GTA to me. the bottom pic on the post above mine has a pic of the 85-90 T/A which had the same wheels, only black not gold. i imagine you coulda switched them cos i don't think the geometry is different between the different models, but most likely it's a GTA. other than that i'd say to try to look for the same things as everyone else has said. it might be tough with it being black and if it's a GTA he coulda hair-dryered off the emblems. if it is a GTA though it would have a raised emblem on the nose and b-pillar, not flat like usual, the gold wheels, the vent behind the front wheel like on the T/A i'm pretty sure, and other than that, i dunno. go ask the guy if you can't figure it out and MUST know. good luck

Cheif is right about the GOLD crosslace rims being GTA equipment. The gold ones were standard on ALL GTAs. Black (and even rarer- silver) crosslace rims were optional for T/As.

Look for gold "bird" emblems on the sail panels, gold GTA emblems on the side of the front fenders (just behind the wheels - very visible from a distance) and the infamous dual louvered T/A hood. ...and there you go, a bonafide GTA, more than likely stock (or a damn good mimick). Keep us posted on that, it'd be interesting to find out. What it is. If no Gold emblems, should say Trans Am on the side. If not, than dude (or dudette ) probably painted the car and left it anonymous for inquiring minds like ours to guess. Later.

Thanks for the helpful info, from those pics i can tell it's a newer than 90 car cause it has the uh more curvy like gfx. It probably is a GTA, hrmm maybe i'll have to go see if it's outta commsion or what

oh yeah i was interested in this in the first place because out here it's just freaking rare to see an awesome looking car with no plate and not being driven, specially a 3rd gen, people drive em till they fall apart lol

Here is a picture of my 92 Bird in 91 and 92 all the birds shared the same front end, gold rims means either TA or GTA, most likely. Look for a name at the bottom of the drivers or passanger door. Mine says Trans am in Gold
