Rust Spots on FRONT bumper...

Yes...the front bumper. Ok, this is the story...some of you may know that i just moved up here to PA from NJ. In NJ, it was law to have front plates also, so the car came with a front plate bracket affixed to the center of the front bumper(see webpage). This was held there by 4 screws. I just got my PA plate for the rear, and registration, so i removed the old jersey plates, and the bracket in the front. After years of all sorts of weather, the bolts in the front became rusted and left rust spots on the front bumper where they were screwed in. Part of the license plate bracket also was touching the bumper so that left more rust marks. Basically, there are 4 rust stains there, and i would like to know what the best way is to get the stains out or off or whatever so it doesnt show up. I have already tried Goo Gone, and that didnt really work. What else can i do, short of spray painting over it in silver? The paint on the bumper is faded, so it doesnt matter if i put a bit of silver paint on it. Any ideas? Thankx.

Polishing compound. If that doesn't seem strong enough, use rubbing compound, then polish.

Hey,

First of all I got the EXACT same Trans Am as you. It's a 5.0 TPI WS6 Silver and looks just like yours (minus the mods)

As for solutions to your problem, try www.por15.com . Supposedly they have a clear spread you put over a rust spot to dissolve it away. You'll have to check their website.

BTW I also live in NJ, and I didn't know you had to have a front plate. Do you know where I can get the monting for the plate by any chance?

-'86 Trans Am WS6
-305 TPI with 700R4

Hey Max...

Post some pics of your car dude!! Or email me at: PhantomLo@aol.com with a couple....if you have the EXACT car as mine, that would make yours the 3rd car in existance optioned out like mine that i know of. The other one is owned by Tom Batts(who is also a member on Thirdgen)..and his car is gorgeous! Same, just like mine(and yours)..check his out at: http://www.geocities.com/battstas/cars/transams.html

Anyway, thanks for the suggestion. I will see what that site has to offer. BTW, where in jersey are you from? I used to live in North Brunswick, Middlesex County...if you know where that is.

Yea, Jersey is strict on that front plate law. A buddy of mine and me were SITTING in a parking lot waiting for our gf's to show up to go eat, and a cop pulled up and asked him where his front plate was. ILLEGAL. Anyways, as to where to get the front mounting...first try a junkyard...usually, you can find stuff like that there fairly easy and cheap. Otherwise, maybe at an auto parts store, or [gag] the dealer. Good luck, and lets see those pics!!

Use a paint polish. The polish in a three step paint care system (1-clean, 2-polish, 3-wax) would be ideal. It's more of a cream and less of a paste than the other (regular)polishing compounds that I've seen. It should take the rust stains off real easy. If fact you should do your whole car with it, then give it a wax. Amazing stuff.
