Front license plate on a trans am

Does anyone have pictures of their front license plate location on their car. My car came with a front license plate but it has had a nose put on it. what is the factory position and has anyone put one on in a different location

All 82-90 Firebird/Trans Am/Formula/GTA's mount with the same bracket in the same location from the factory.

Here is my Formula with my buddies 86 Trans Am:

Re: Front license plate on a trans am

Straight into the bumper cover...

My buddy made some "L" brackets. Used the factory screws on the bottom of the nose, then attached the plate to those.

Mine on my 87 GTA sucks....factory mount....

Re: Front license plate on a trans am

not to spam a thread but thank god we don't have to run Front plates here. IMO they just ruin the front of every generation of T/A.

Re: Front license plate on a trans am

Don't do it. We're required, but the factory didn't provide one on my car, so there's no way I would ruin a perfectly good nose by drilling holes for one.

Re: Front license plate on a trans am

I did have a plate on the front of my 89 ta, but mine mounted from the bottom of the bumper cover so I had no hole in the front. But then my kid wanted to help clean under the hood with me, and used it as a step stool and tore it off. I went one year before just getting nailed for not having it on........Wisconsin state law.....so now I gotta get it back on by the end of this month.

I wish I could leave it off, looks hundreds of times better

Re: Front license plate on a trans am

A member on this board has his attached to bottom air dam. It wouldn't work as well for lowered cars, but on factory ride height I'm sure it works well. I drove around for the longest time without one on the front (about 6mo) but then I got stopped twice in one weekend. I had to show the second cop the ticket I got from the first one hahaha. Jerks... always pickin on sports cars

Re: Front license plate on a trans am

I agree that these cars look better (alot) with them off, but it's state law here in MN, and just not worth the hassle of getting pulled over and ticketed.

My first car, my 83 Trans Am, I left it off and got ticket while the car was parked in a Park-N-Ride back in 94, then in 2000, in one of my old Camaro's I was waiting for plates to come from the dealer (It was an out of state car) and I got pulled over 3 times in one weekend, I did not get ticketed, because I had just bought the car, and it was within the 21 days.

But one of the cops even said, "these cars look terrible with front plates. but it's the law"

in n,y, u also need a front plate, but if youre car is nice and u dont drive like a jerk off, the cops really wont bother pulling u over for it.. they focus more attention on a p.o.s. integra's with a fart can and stickers..

I'd love to see a picture of that if anybody knows where it is. I don't quite understand how that would be sufficiently visible from the front.

Re: Front license plate on a trans am

I've been driving without a front plate for quite some time in NY and i just keep the extra plate in the back seat. If I get pulled over, which was only 1 time in the last say year and a half, I pull out the mangled front plate and tell the cop that it fell off the front and I haven't had the opportunity to put it back on. It worked the one time i got pulled over LOL

Re: Front license plate on a trans am

yeah i decided not to, i looked at how the factory location would work out and didn't like it, so then I was going to go off to one side (like a 2ed gen camaro) but the factory bolts under neath where not in the right place, so I just decided to forget about it, the more i thought about, the worse i think it would look

Re: Front license plate on a trans am

I'd say don't do it but the law's the law. When I used take my car to shows, I would swap out my NY plate for one of those black and gold Trans Am phoenix plates. I lost my screwdriver during a show and couldn't swap the TA and NY plates. On the way home, I was pulled over twice on the road and once at a toll plaza because of the plate. I got out of it when I explained the situation, showed the cops my NY plate and the back seat that was full of car show stuff.

Ugly as it is, the front plate also protects the bumper from idiots that parallel park by crashing into the cars behind them. My front plate is a mess because of it, but I would rather the plate get ruined than my car.
