paint on chrome exhaust

How do I safely get it off? I have paint stripper but I am not sure if it will mess up the chrome.

Re: paint on chrome exhaust

I know SOS pad and WD40 takes rust off of chrome without scratching it (neighbors dog keeps marking the rims on my truck and making them rust). If it's just some overspray I'm sure it would work. Or you can use fingernail polish remover, or acetone if you have it. Mothers wheel polish took overspray off my wheels I refinished them. Aircraft stripper will take the paint off, but I don't know if your tips have any kind of rust inhibiting clear coat on them or not. If so, it'll eat it right off. Aircraft stripper is some pretty nasty stuff...it even tries to take skin off if you get it on you.

Re: paint on chrome exhaust

An old bodyshop tip I have used for years is to use 0000 steelwool.
Works great on glass and chrome, but don't use it on your outside mirrors or aluminum wheels.
