Repaint different color
Repaint different color
I'm thinking about repainting my light blue camaro red .It's no show car just a daily driver. It doesn't need any bodywork and I want to do some prepwork and then get a freind who works at a body shop to paint it.I won't get too much of a discount though.Or I also might do some prepwork and take it to macco and get a second level paint job.I am looking to spend less than $1000.How much more money to repaint a different color than the original color?Could I get a decent paintjob of red for Less than$1000?Or should I just spend around $600 for the origial color? Also how much more would it be for white stripes?Any input is appreciated. Thanks
I personally like a blue thirdgen then a red one but hey its your ride,Maaco will charge you about $200+ to paint it and $75 for each jam i believe,so you could change the color to red through Maaco for about $600 or so.

you could easily do it for $1000 if you're just lookin for an average paint job. The prep is the key though. Make sure you do it right and your paint will look good. As for color, just make up your mind, the original color will look better (remember the engine bay), but if you like the red, go with it, you can always do the engine bay later on
I personally would sand it down and do all the prepwork like 86zrichie said before you bring it to Maaco, they aren't too bad at painting the car but there bodywork and masking job sucks, just my opinion.

Unless you got some real money don't change the color. I hate seeing those people oen their hoods, engine or jambs and havea drastically different color. If your anything like me if you could not do it all it would eat you alive. Spend the 100.00 bucks on getting your paint looking nice and new.

paint job for under $1000 huh.......sounds like a dream. i have never ever seen any paint job that some one has paid less than that and had it look good, i wish u luck and hope it turns out the way u want it!
I changed the color of my car from red to blue. I did the prep work and I also painted all the jambs and engine departments. I painted the jambs and engine compartment flat black.
IMO it looks really good and some cars come like this from the factory. Macco did the paint job. All for $500.

I know its $75 a jamb for the doors and trunk,i dont know if they do the engine bay, that might be something you have to do yourself, but they do paint pretty well at Maaco,it all depends where you go,soem places have good workers an others got people who aren't very fussy and dont really care, they did my car, check out the link in my sig,it came out nice, but they do a $hit job of masking and prepping it for sure,i might let them shooot it again as the paint is 3 years old and i have some dings and paint chips, nothing big but i like my ride to be primo,so i will get it ready to shoot and take it to them,my old man paints and does great work but he is way to busy all the time so it looks like Maaco unless he has a free Sunday to shoot it,i hope so.
