cowl size needed to clear RPM air-gap?

I am putting a new carb'd motor into camaro with an edelbrock air gap intake, standard base filter with 4" element. Is anybody else running the same setup or similar? How big cowl necessary to clear? Don't want to have to run a 6", will a 4" fit, 4 3/4"? Intake may "grow" a little more in the future with nitrous and possible spacer also. Thanks for any help guys

I have a performer rpm manifold and 2 1/4 element with a 1 1/4" drop base and it barely clears the hood

Re: cowl size needed to clear RPM air-gap?

I'm running the RPM with a 3" element, and 1.5" drop base, and I use to get minor rubbing from one of the ribs onder the hood until I took the peenball hammer to it. Now I get no rubbing, but it's that close. Here's what my setup use to be like last year; http://www.rbvracing.com/gallery2/ma...&g2_itemId=243

So, if you want to run a 4" element with a flat base, then you'll need a minimum of a 3" cowl, 4" would be better. If you run a 4" element with a 1" drop base, then a 3" cowl will be more than enough.

I ran the same manifold + edelbrock carb with a 1.5" 3" tall air filter under the stock air gap hood. Now i have a 4" flat base, 3" cowl, the filter rubs a tiny but, but my cowl is also a bolt on.

You can barely clear it with a stock hood but I would recomend a 2 1/2'' cowl to compensate for engine movement that gave me a lil over an inch of clearence on my other camaro plus when I made the cowl functional my butt dyno told me the extra fresh air from the cowl made a difference
