Front Plate question
My car has a bracket to put your license plate and I am going to take it off so it says Camaro. In Illinois, has anyone had problems with the police out there?

Re: Front Plate question
My friend just got pulled over monday for not having one and he only got a $10 ticket. Glad I live in Wisconsin! If it's $75 there I would leave it on.

Re: Front Plate question
Well I live a couple of towns over from Orland in Markham right by the county courthouse where there are tons of cops daily...and I have found the better my car looked the least likely I am to get a front plate ticket...once I repainted my car and kept it clean I never got stopped for the front plate...but if my car is dirty and looks like a 16 year old car instead of a show car the better of a chance I stand of getting a ticket...but in Illinois it is against the law and is definetly a "add on" ticket if you get stopped for anything else...also be aware in Chicago even if parked you will get a ticket for no plate no matter how clean or good looking your car is...but no matter what on my '92 I will never have a front plate and I do have one on my '86...and those damn Vettes get a free pass everytime...

Re: Front Plate question
I finally caved in and put my front plate on. I cut about 1/2" off it all the way around to make it look smaller and then gave it a slight bend in the middle so it fits the shape of the bumper. I then applied it with some 3m adhesive tape (the kind used for mouldings) so I didn't have to use a bracket...

Re: Front Plate question
Depends on where your at and who you run across. If you run into an a**hole cop, you'll get a ticket for sure. If the cops cool he might let you off. Before I got a new grille, (the same one you've got actually) I used to carry the plate and plate holder with me in the car for when I got pulled over. I got out of two tickets just by showing my plate to the cop and telling the officer it had fallen off and I hadn't had a chance to put it back on. Now I have no holes drilled to mount the bracket, so it would take a pretty dumb cop to believe it "just" fell off. The older I get the less often I get harassed, but I do get much more attention from the police in my car, then in my truck. In fact I got pulled over in my truck last week for expired plate stickers and the cop didn't even ask me about my missing front plate. I haven't had a front plate on my car OR truck the last 5 or so years, and I've only gotten one ticket for no front plate and it was piled on top of 3 other tickets. Gotta love cops! Keep your plate on you and test your luck. The car looks MUCH better without a front plate.
By the way, does anyone know what the fine is for no front plate these days? It wasn't too bad many years back when I was getting tickets. Couldn't have been more than $20.

Re: Front Plate question
i stuck mine in the windshield, and secured it with velcro to make sure it is always 100% visible. i can easily remove the plate for when i make videos.
(the velcro can be easily scraped off w/ a razor leaving no residue)

First time hearing that, I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope it's true.

Re: Front Plate question
That's gonna be my excuse. "Officer, these cars didn't come with a front license plate bracket... Here it is if you'd like to see it.(Pulls it out from under the front seat)"

also a lot of cops use to or still do own third gens and they know the deal. Probably don't have plates on their cars too.

Re: Front Plate question
I guess what I am saying in a nutshell is if your car looks like a beater, then the cops will look to mess with you. You know three different colors of paint, dented door or dirty car makes them want to stop you for probable cause such as no insurance (or no front plate) because you can't afford to even clean your car. But if you keep your car looking sharp the chances are better of not getting stopped. You get the idea....

Re: Front Plate question
I will never run a front plate on my Camaro. I think it ruins to look of the front end. I have, however, been pulled over for no front plate at least 10 times since I've owned the car. No ticket yet though. *knocks on wood*
I also find that if I acknowledge the officers existence by waving to him I don't get pulled over. Every time I've been pulled over I look strait ahead like I don't see him. Maybe Coincidence?
BTW I've been told that it's a $175 ticket for no front plate in Oregon.

Re: Front Plate question
Illinois State Troopers will pull you over for it every time if they see it. I don't have a problem with them, it's their job, but they will pull you over for anything.
