Wax

Ok, so the time is approaching where i can wax my car (freash paint's finally cureing enough)

my question is, what should i use? i've heard turtle wax ICE was good, but then i heard this new stuff called NXT 2.0 is good too, i don't remember but i think it was made by mcguires

the car's black too if that makes a difference

also, probley a dumb question, but i've never actually owned a car with paint on it till now, what is Claybar?

Re: Wax

As for wax, I generally use a pure carnauba wax. (ie: http://www.autogeek.net/motcalgolcar.html)

Here's a good explanation of the good ol' clay bar.

Re: Wax

I agree with jeffcj use 100% carnuba wax - I use Mother's with great results. I did 60 cars last summer and everyone looked great when I was done thanks to Mother's 100% carnuba wax.

Re: Wax

If you are waxing on new paint, carnuba is the way to go. Many "waxes" actually have some abrasives and other petroleum products in them to work better on older finishes. If your paint is new, you don't need the extras and carnuba will provide a good base for you to maintain.

Re: Wax

I have have always had great results with Meguiar's Gold Class clear coat wax...I used it on my black Cavalier and it came out amazing the first time, and it's also a little easier to buff than some paste wax I've used in the past. I don't know if it's 100% carnuba though, but that's one you might wanna check out. It's kind of pricey, but worth the coin IMO....

Peace...

Re: Wax

Avoid wax that contains silicones. They tend to not get along with new paint. Meguiars makes a nice product, so does the Zaino Brothers company.

Re: Wax

I have used turtle wax ICE once and i threw the rest of the bottle away. The finish was great but after it got rained on twice the water wasnt beading anymore. Meguiars makes really good products but you really cant beat Mothers caranuba wax.

Re: Wax

I wish you had sent that Turtle Wax Ice to me. I like their products. Maybe you used the Clay Bar wrong. I have had nothing but good success with the Clay Bar and the Interior cleaner. I use the Meguilars wax and detailer on my black car and get nothing but compliments.

Re: Wax

Go with the NXT 2.0. Make sure it's the 2.0 version. Great shine, good durability.

Re: Wax

use 100% carnuba wax on new paint----I think the best thing you can do is wash your car in the shade---use a good 100%CW and keep the paint clean over the days
I use LIQUID GLASS but my paint is not new but it looks it--after LIQ Glass I use 100% carnuba---oh Liq Glass is a polish not a wax

I will second that vote for NXT! Anything I put on my paint puts a nice shine, but the NXT does a better job of hiding the smallest of swirls in my black paint, that no other wax I have tried has done.

Re: Wax

Little bit of bad news on the car, had to send it back to maaco.. finally had enough after my run in with the owner.. very long story but let's just say i've never delt with a bussiness owner who's over 60 and acts like she's 2.. they couldn't get a hold of my front pieces, so we had to buy them, i got under the car for the first time last week and none of the front pieces were bolted, and if they were bolted they were very loose.. she said that since i brought the parts in they just put them on, they don't guarentee fitment, but they will fix it if we pay them more.. i said forget it.. but they had to respray the whole rear bumper and hood, so idk how much time i have to let pass before i can wax it.. i think i'm going to buy some NXT 2.0 when i am able to

Re: Wax

I have been using Zaino for about 5 years. It really looks great when you are all done...but it is expensive and it is a lot of work and you always waste some. If you are looking to get done quick Zaino is not for you. I have also used Griots Garage best of show...nice wax but a lot of powder. I kind of use cleaning my car as a way to relax or as my wife says a way to unwind after a long week of work. If I use Zaino I usually start washing my car around 7:00am on a Saturday. I do the whole shot ...clay bar from Griots garage(because you get more) and 3 or 4 coats of Zaino I take off the wheels and do a Wheel wax thing. I usually get done around 2:00 or 3:00 pm...Oh yea If you are old enough ...don't forget about a couple MGD's
