SS and ZR1
Is there a difference when mounting the two? As in backspacing or anything like that. I'm planning to get 17 x 9.5s on the back and they are listed as ZR1 wheels, and then 17 x 9s in the front, and they are listed as SS wheels. Also, on a fibreglass hood, I've heard you need weaker hood shocks because it can cause damage to the hood. Is it true? Where would I find weaker ones?

anology for the hood: fiberglass is to feather as steel is to elephant
YES!! you need different hood shocks on a fiberglass hood, unless, of course you want your hood folding like an accordian, without even having to get into an accident

You can either go to an auto parts store....they usually have the struts specifically made for Fiberglass hoods...or you can go to your local junkyard...find a camaro/firebird with struts that wont hold the hood up...and they will probably be weak enough to not damage the hood...but strong enough to keep it up....but I would grab a few and try them all out.

As far as the rims go...
SS rims are "ZR1 styled" rims. Sometimes catalogs refer to them as SS rims and sometimes they are referred to as ZR1 styled rims or ZR1 knockoffs. I believe the new SS's get the 17x9 in the front and 17x9.5 in the back, but I have no idea what size the ZR1 vettes got.
Basically, the ZR1 only designated the appearance style of that rim. Personally, the aluminum 17'' ZR1 style rims on the SS are my favorite!

Sorry, misunderstanding I guess... the SS wheels and Zr1 wheels are the same...I knew this, but I was wondering if the backspacing was different. As for SS coming with 17x9.5 in the back, they come with 17x9 while the ZR1 I believe came with 17x9.5s in the back. Does make me wonder where the 17x11 came from though? Just a bigger size that some company made?

Couldn't agree more... of course I like the TT2s, and 91-92 chrome... that was my first choice... but I guess I'm going with SS rims now.

Hmmm, I was reading somewhere about the Zr1, and it said the front had 17x9.5 and the rear was 17x11... I guess that would explain where the 17x11 came from.
