Re: Color matching original paint?
You can get the paint anywhere that sells automotive paint. You will need the paint code or some stores have scanners that will pick the correct color. The fender will need to be sanded first. Probably 500 or 600 wet would work best. You also will need to sand the adjacent panels with a grey scuff pad or 1000 grit paper. You just want to dull finish and get rid of the shine. Start spraying the base coat on the fender first. Once it's covered then start spraying into the adjacent panels a little further on each coat. When your'e done the color should blend evenly into the other panels. The basecoat will probably go about 1/2 into each panel. Then you will need to clear coat the panels.

1000 grit is way too high, thats not leaving any surface for the new paint to stick to. I'd use 400-600 grit for all the sanding. as for the paint matching I'd bring it to an automotive paint shop then have them match the paint with custom mixing.
I personally think trying to match the old beat up, faded paint will make it look worse but maybe your paint is in good condition.

its not really beat up.. The paint actually looks very nice for 25 years old.. theres just like a few "bottom of soda can" sized faded spots here and there and would like to touch them up

How do i get my color code?

Re: Color matching original paint?
go in your center console or rear locking compartment, there you'll find the rpo codes, run them through the decoder on this site and one of them will be your paint code.

I didnt see anything in my console.. My trunk is jammed right now so i cant get into that.

Is there a chart anywhere that lists the colors used for the 1983 model Camaro?

hmm Im not actually sure, I just assumed that all third gens had rpo codes but you may be right.
in any case- blade, you can just take your car to a paint shop, they'll take a high quality pic of your paint and they'll mix paint to match.

edit: after a quick search it would appear rpo codes started in 84, so blade, your other option is to look for your build sheet.
sonymaster- thanks for correcting me, I would have never known lol
