Concept Paint Job...Whaddya Think??

I am purchasing a new hood for my RS in the very new future, and, of course, it will have to be painted. I want to do something different with the look of the car when I do this. I want something that is not *****, and not too radical. I want a subtle, clean look, besides just the maroon that it is now. I thought about stripes, either silver or white, but everybody has those. I also thought of pearl ghost flames, but that looks more suited on drag cars to me. I'm either getting a Harwood 2 3/4 cowl, or an ASCD SS hood, and I thought that painting the top half of the car black, divided by a small single silver stripe over the maroon would look different, and still be clean looking. I used Picure It!( I AM NO PRO, AS THE PIC WILL CLEARLY SHOW!!) to create this image, and although I am still undecided, the more I look at it, the more I like it. Now, I know some of you guys are gonna totally hate it, but most of the people that have seen this image seem to like it. What do you guys think???? Be Gentle!!!

I think that it will be a very nice looking custom.... I would defenitely put the 91-92Z spoiler becuase the one you have now will be painted halfway on the sides, as the whole Z spoiler would be painted black, Plus it will look AWESome with the cowl or ss hood. Great Idea though!

make the black come down at an angle like the SILVER STREAK project car for SUPER CHEVY, and do go with a 91-92 Z spoiler and make the silver line line-up with one of the lines in the brake lights.

just an idea.

They are SEC Racing 3 peice. They are 17 X 12 on the rear with P335/35ZR17, and 17 X 9.5 on the front with 275/40/ZR17. The tires are Michelin Pilot XGT's.

Here's a close-up of the monstrous 335's:

It is cool, different and nostalgic!! There was a second gen paint scheme like that - for '77(??) I believe.

I'd say go for it, but I also agree with the 91-92Z spoiler, that would look the best.

WOW!! What did you go through to put those wheels and tires on that car. I thought I had pretty much taken it to the limit with mine!!!

CarNDrvr,
LOL, They are REALLY tight!! I had to clearance the inner fenderwells some and even had to clearance the LCA's to make them work. They are 7" BS on the rear, and 4.5" on the front. The front "rings" and the center Crosslace section on all 4 wheels are the same, only the rear or inner sections change. The pics really don't do the car justice, because it looks cool that even though tires sizes are so different, the offest of the wheels is the same on all 4. It also looks good that the top of the rear wheels are just ever so slightly tucked under the flared part of the quarter panel. I have a backshot somewhere that I'll try to find that you can actually see that directly from the rear, the wheels actually don't stick out from the flare. When I first put them on, they scrubbed with the stock RS suspension. I changed the rear springs to '87 IROC springs and installed the 24mm sway bar with Poly endlinks and bushings, and now I can't make it scrub. They fronts have only scrubbed once, when I backed out of parking lot kinda fast and there was a big dip from the concrete to the pavement and the wheels were at full lock to the right. I recently installed KYB shocks and struts and put the IROC springs, the wonderbar, and I found a hollow 36mm sway bar and installed it with Poly endlinks. It is unreal how the car handles. I plan to put on tubular LCA's, panhard bar, and torque arm on down the road.

P.S. Your car is absolutely beautiful!!

Don't paint the hood and rearview mirrors black, nor the pillars on the front of the car, just the roof and down the hatch. That would look cool.

Sounds like we had some of the same experiences with the clearance issue. I had no issues with the front wheels and tires. They fit as well as stock. No rubbing at all, and the car is lowered quite a bit. I was surprised that it didn't rub. I had to clearance the inner wheel well in the rear, and radius the outer lip a little, but not so much that it looks flared out. You did a nice job! I like your idea on the paint job too. It would be origional and tasteful at the same time!

First of all, thanks for all of the replies,
Ok, now, here's what I've come up with on the front. Again, it is another CRUDE Picture It! image, but it's all I have. Do keep in mind that the silver pinstripe will be much smaller than I can make it look here. This is an old picture, and I had the wheels and tires off my 82 Z28 on the car, but it is the best front-end shot I have. I have tried to illustrate the car with headlight blackouts(which I plan to put on the with any color combo) and (don't laugh, I tried) and a raised cowl/SS hood. My other option would be stopping the black at the hood and not coming down the nose. What are your opinions on this?? Thanks again.

hate to say this but, even after being a big vette fan for a long time, i would take that camaro, CarNDrvr that thing is beautiful, man

as for the paint job idea, i think it is really cool and original, it kinda reminds me of a paint job you would see on an early muscle car from say the 60/70's

I think that the paint job looks good... the only thing I would do diff would be a diff color for the bottom. It looks ok, but I think some other colors would look better. With out seeing it's tough to say which ones though. I guess it all comes down to preferance though. Good idea never the less.
