Fourspeed, I just installed ASCD SS style hood on my 87 TPI IROC. Not to detour you from buying, because I'm sure there are lots of satisfied ASCD customers, but my impression of ASCD customer service and the quality of their hood is poor. The first hood they sent me had several 3" by 1/4" indentations molded into the flat surface of the hood and had been badly scratched. I immediately refused shipment on the hood and called them. They told me that that the problems were normal and that all fiberglass hoods needed prep work. I agreed, but that I didn't feel using body filler to fix a $500 hood was part of normal prep work. Later when ASCD received the hood back, they told me they inspected the hood and it was fine which is a lie because I kept calling every week and the last time I talked them they said they reinspected the hood and that it had obvious mold defects. Meanwhile, I had to wait an extra month to put my car together. The second hood was alot better but still required lots of prep work(very wavy). Also the hood wasn't the right contour for my stock hinges, doesn't have any way to mount your hood spring to use you stock latch, and is so weak that it bows up at the hinges causing it not to fit the fender line. Sorry for the novel, but poor quality stuff on my car really pisses me off!

P.S. The back of the hood is pretty flat and boring too!

I have had my hood on my car for about three to four months and I have some gripes but am not mad. I dont like that they leave a inch and a half of unfinnished fiberglass around the edge of the hood, the latch went on fine but the spring is a completely different problem the holes they drilled was not for a camaro spring but with alot of manipulation it will work. I dont like seing unfinished rivets from where the monted all the metal parts(like the latch and the rear mounts). I am not happy they didn't tell me the stock air filter piece wont work with it and the little piece of cheap plastic for the opening of the SS intake broke the first time I took it off (but it stays on ) But other than that I like the hood and sure the hell like the look.

I put mine on about 6 to 8 months ago. It didn't fit great right away but with very minor adjusting, it fits and looks great. I get so many compliments that it is unbeliveable.

I guess I should feel lucky then . My hood was flawless out the box . No prep at all needed , all the bolts lined up perfectly . The only area I had to spend time on was getting the striker bar shimmed to the right height . There are tons of pics of the hood on my car in the link in my sig if ya want to check them out

It looks alright but theres really no way to make it functional... in my opinion it defeats the purpose...

true for the TPI models anyway, on the carbed model I don't see any reason why you couldn't make an air pan and just an open element air cleaner and just route that fresh air straight to the carb. On that model anyway, Rex Orr told me that it did function as a fresh air scoop but not as a ram air setup (Need the pan to make it do any real good)
I'm still considering this hood if I stick with a carbed setuplater on, not so sure if I go with a fuel injection setup down the road though.

well ive had mine bout 2 years now, i love the look, hate the fit, its bout a quarter inch too short at the cowl where it meets up with the fender line, there is a sag on the passenger side of the hood that makes it look even more like crap, the hood flexes like the other guy said when you try to open it horribally, almost to the point that you think its gonna brake so you gotta wiggle it to get it up all the way, lots of unfinished edges, its hood latch sucked and you have to use the origional hardware off your origional hood and thats if you can get it to hook up without breaking off. The Ram Air inlet was cut out, but only half a$$edly cut out, so i got half of it out and half of it hanging in there roughed up like it should be finishedd. How depressing. oh well..

All in all I was very disappointed with the quality of my hood, but i love the looks and at this point ive learned to live with the pain. IF i had it to do it over again, i think i would consider another maker, or another hood altogether simply because of the shoddy quality of construction.

but what can you do its not likeits a quality name like Harwood.

Just out of curiousity, did any of you guys use the stock latch? If you did, how did you mount the hood spring to make the hood pop up when the latch released. I had to fabricate a holder and drill a hole to mount mine. I also had to slot the hell out of the hinge holes to be able to bolt the hood on without pushing up on the underside of the hood.
