I don't know who's car the first one is, but I snagged it awhile back. I just wish it had a rear wing.....It's my "inspiration"

Re: Glossy is boring...Post pics of your satin or matte thirdgens!
Do you have to inform DMV about having your car not glossed? Because I'm wanting to do the stock look of my paint but i was deciding on if i should just do a satin look to my 1989 camaro rs. I think it'll look nicer at night as well since its gm black, I just want to make sure that its ok to have gm black but not glossed?
Also if it is allowed; is there a coating they do to keep it protected from the UV and other material so it doesnt wear and fade.. I'd love to satin but if it doesnt hold up well i would want that gloss coat they put that supposively stands up to the uv rays and other things.

Hot Rod Flatz is suppose to be the best. Mine held up pretty good for a month it hasn't faded it just scratches real easy. I've painted my car 3 different colors and I never told the dmv. I've never had any problems. I did get pulled over one day for tint and they told me I needed to tell them, but I don't think they can do anything. I know they don't bother in my city.

i have never heard of the dmv or anybody for that matter having anything to do with what color your car is. why would it matter if it is flat or glossy the only problem i can see is if it where like crome then it would reflect the sun and blind people. that first camaro is awsome but the bird is just SICK! i have to paint my bird flat black now...

if it's just dull all you need to do is get your car buffed it will look like you got a new paint job for 80 bucks, flat or matte is 0degree to 30 degree shine you have to specifically ask for flat, satin, matte, or basecoat clearcoat.

Re: Glossy is boring...Post pics of your satin or matte thirdgens!
back from the dead, really thinking Im gonna paint the FB matte black this time around, way to many little dings n defects that will stand out with gloss. To many years parking under an acorn tree, looks like cottagecheese butt in the right light in places. Can't really see skim coating the whole car in bondo. as I just don't trust the longevity of it on a roof or hood that flexes allot. fenders I got no trouble with knowing it will last.
Oh and a few post up people talked about the DMV, they don't ask what kind of finish here but every year they ask me if its still black. I just assume that for police records, if they ran my plate and it was on a red car, they will stop it to make sure its not a stolen plate.

My car was originally base coat clear coat but was reapinted with a satin look. The paint looks faded to me though. I think I prefer gloss.

primer will fade, matte or satin can be waxed right to keep the right look.

Now when you say can be waxed are you talking about those with a Matte clear or with the matte paint. Because I have mine painted with the john Deere blitz black and has started yovlook mote charcoal then black over last year

if its a single stage paint yes, but if your using a base clear 2 stage paint and just use base, good luck with the results.

So to clarify. I have a single stage. So it can be waxed? Any particular wax and method?

like all paint you don't wax till its well cured as most have petrolium products in it that could remove fresh paint but after that....
I always have used turtle wax products. turtle wax color match stuff is nice but colors are limited in store as of late.
[ I use black of course ]

Its been almost a year since it wbas sprayed so it is well cured . I just wastnt sure if single stage needed a different kind of was because of the no protection of the clear coat. Somebody suggested meguitew tech wax but it is a pretty penny

I seen some late model cars that are flat colored. A flat white that actually had some pearl/sparkle flake in it that looks awesome. On a new GTR nissan.
Flat blue on a mustang.
Seen a flat red on a bike that looked awesome and I thought about that for my car but i'd have to redo my interior since its red. Cant have too much red. Now I could do my Red TA flat red...

you guys who like the matte look need to get on board with PlastiDip...change the color of your car as often as you feel like spending $150 on a few gallons of it...peel it off in minutes if you don't like it...
ever seen the Jackal? where Bruce Willis peels the vinyl off his minivan in a timed trial run before the assassination? it's kinda like that...
