Looking at a 1986 IROC-Z ...
Hey guys I am going to go check out a 1986 Iroc z camaro, I am looking for another camaro, I have an 89 rs with a 355 and turbo 350. Got in a wrec (got rearended) and got 2000 bucks. I am going to buy another camaro and swap my drivetrain into it. What should I look for in this car as far as costly repairs. rust, doors sagging, t tops leaking, I know posi is GU5. Will this car have posi If he doesnt have RPO code sheet? What about power windows and locks? Are they costly/ painful to fix? Thanks. Looks really good besides some small chips on bumper cover. Heres a link. I have a perfect interior seats etc I am planning to put into it.

that thing looks like a ragged out piece of junk. For that money you can do better. Heck the 91 Trans Am I just bought for $950 is way better than that thing. If you're going to swap your drivetrain anyway, find a real nice v6 car and swap it all over. You'll get a nicer car for the money.

Well, I know everyone has their own opinion, but it doesn't look that bad to me. Considering it's an IROC, you get the upgraded suspension, larger sway bars, etc, plus t-tops, 3.73 gears and all. It looks like it just needs to be cleaned up, and since you have a good interior, why not?
That's just my opinion...

so what if its an IROC? Big deal, it has bigger sway bars and stiffer springs, oh and the wonderbar Big flippin deal, its a piece of junk no matter what badge is on the door. Any of the parts that make it an IROC can be purchased here or on e-bay for dirt cheap. The paint and body on that car appears to be totally wasted, headaches you don't need just to get an IROC. Go with a solid car, add the options YOU want. It will be far cheaper and easier to buy a solid car thats not been hacked regardless of wether you swap the drivetrain or not.

I don't see how you can look at it and say the body and paint are wasted from those photose. It looks a little dirty, but otherwise better than 90% of thirdgens you see on the road. My car needs some paint and bodywork too, so I guess its just a pile of junk I shouldn't have wasted my money on either.
That makes me so sad...

Well 1meanZ, I can see how you came to your conclusion now that you've explained it, but just saying it looked like a ragged out piece of crap didn't explain anything. You have a good point about the unfinished ( or incorrectly finished) details, and that should be something to take into consideration when buying.
Depending on the area, I think 800 may or may not be a decent deal. These cars are getting harder to find by the day. Chances are that if he waited around, he'd find a better deal, but the question is how long does he want to wait while his car is sitting there wrecked?
I'm no expert, just throwing in my

If the body is straight, a few paint chips ought to be the least of your concern because it WILL get more during that engine swap. Something silly always happens.
There is a garage behind it in the photos, it's quite possible that it's a multiple owner vehicle which has actually spent a bit of it's life indoors so you may not have the rust issues you'll have with cars that have been kept outside all their life.
Since you already have an RS parts car, you are ahead of the game already. You have every part you could possibly need to repair the new camaro with, so what are you waiting for? If the guy will settle for 800.. drop coin on him and get that car back to your place and begin work.
