what you think? body trim or not?

alright so i have 2 questions in this thread. first of all, i was thinking about pulling off the side trim on the body and making the body look more sleek. i know people do this all the time so i wanted to know if anybody had any pictures of it. please post em up!

my second question is about these headlight louvers. i love them and i REALLY want them but i have no clue where to get them at. anybody know?? how much do they usually go for?? thanks for the help guys!

the picture in the dark with lots of snow on it was taken 4 days ago. prolly gonna say somethin to why i have 4 hoodpins instead of just 2. obviously this isnt the hood for this car. i bought the car with this hood on it, it doesnt really fit right so i used the hood pins to pull the front of he hood to the front bumper. this other pic is what it looked like before i installed hoodpins and bought my ne grille. but yeah also notice the body side trim. keep it or no?? and here are the headlight louvers i want. anybody got these headlight louvers?

I know the images are kinda small. first time uploading pics has been a PITA lol.

Re: what you think? body trim or not?

I never seen those headlight covers before, so I can't help you there. But I did take the trim off my old 88 Iroc and it looked a lot better. As soon as I can find the pics I'll post them.

I must be the only one that thinks they look cheap and unfinsihed without the door trim. Just like the C5 Corvettes. The trim is a must!

i love the way it looks without them. i dont plan on painting my car anytime soon (no money!!) how do you get these off without messing up the paint. when i got the car, the passenger side was missing part of it and the paint was still flawless, but i tried to pull another piece off and scratched the hell out of it and it left a lot of glue on it. tried pullin the glue off and it wouldnt come off. im confused lol

Re: what you think? body trim or not?

Try using a heat gun, and with a thin piano wire in a sawing motion go between the body and the molding.
It will takes some nerves. try doing it on a 9000 mile car...

Re: what you think? body trim or not?

dont use gasoline or anything with acetone or harsh chemicals. go to a local napa and look up adhesive removers. i think 3M makes a good one. i used one to take off mail box stickers off my hood, worked excellent.

just my 2 cents

I shaved the badges off my 2000 Z24 when i got it but it was brand new. I did it the day I got it home from the dealer.

I heated up the emblem with a hair dryer then used dental floss to get under the emblem to avoid scratching the paint like you do if you use a tool. Then apply heat and slowly try to seperate the badge from the glue. Mine came right off the car but like I said the car was new. A little paint cleaner took the rest off then waxed the whole car and viola` no badges. Now on an older car the glue may or may not have bonded better. You can try my method. Heat really is your friend in this situation. I see you live somewhere cold from the snow on the car... cold is not your friend. You need to heat it up and it should come off fairly easy. Elbow grease is all that you need to get the glue off the car. Just work at it, it will come off eventually.

DO NOT USE GAS! I did this once... ONCE! I was 16 and I just got a 85? Berlinetta and I didn't like the Berlinetta badges so I ripped them off and used gas to get off the glue. Left a nasty cloudy mark I could never get off. It was a shame to because the car was in mint condition with flawles paint. I wish I had some pictures of it.

Re: what you think? body trim or not?

I think a lot depends o the color of the car.....

I've done it to purple (twice) & black & loved all 3. I photoshopped it on my white GTA and it just seemed like TOO MUCH stark white, no black shadow stripe breaking up the expanse. So they are staying on my car, come paint time (if I stay white).

No man ur not the only one. I removed them from my old 85 SC and my 86 Z28 didn't have them. I want to get the newer style of door ding strips that taper down. and are a little thicker. I dont like mine. I want them on because if some jerk opens their door and hits mine i want some protection from the hit. That way my paint should be alright. Thats just me tho. Also i would sat that is a custom build head light louver. Might be able to fab somthing up. Good Luck -Matt

I love the look of them off the car.
When I get home in 3 weeks I am doing the same thing. Off they come.
Looks a lot cleaner. Just got to watch opening the doors now.

WOW!

I have to be honest that removing the trim is something that had never crossed my mind before...

After seeing the pics w/o it I gotta say that is a VERY sexy look!

Yet something else to consider before she goes into the paint shop this summer...

Re: what you think? body trim or not?

the paint shouldn't flake off.. but you could take a razor blade to the edges first if it makes you feel better and it could make a difference. and if its worn off, a paint store could look it up for you or you could run a search on here.. the code should look like "WA--". the -'s will be numbers. it is on your rpo code list in the console too.

Removing that trim was the FIRST thing I did to my car as well... I had to use a razor blade, and still peeled some paint off of the passenger side fender, but I ended up replacing that fender anyway...

Re: what you think? body trim or not?

Fishing line & a heat gun makes for a good "blade" to saw through the adhesive & won't damage the body or paint any.

Did that on my black 97 Tahoe, I bought in 2001. Came right off, damaged nothing & the body buffed right out. Never knew it had been there afterwards.

i think it makes it look plain and a huge empty space with out them

and if your going to ever drive your car and park it in a parking lot, i would keep them on, since nobody cares if they slam open their door and mess up ur paint!

If you dont want them then send them to me. I've got a red IROC I could use them for. Mine has been missing and the RPO codes show it came with it. Let me know.

My side trim was strange. it had a c-shaped aluminum rail riveted on with a body colored plastic insert... ripped it off anyway, I have a lot of body work to do so w/e.
